My tablet, which uses the POP protocol, beeped earlier to let me know I had a new email, however when I went to open it my inbox was completely empty. I checked my phone which uses IMAP and it also displayed no emails. I've checked webmail and that also shows nothing. I haven't checked Thunderbird yet because I'm waiting for a system upgrade to finish. Has this happened to anyone else? I hope they're not lost because of the Slingshot upgrades taking place..

Do you have delete on download turned on for any of your devices?

Anything new just set up that could have down a full download and delete? This option is the default in some email applications.

I haven't changed any settings on my tablet or phone and I rarely use the PC for emails. I've been doing it with the same configuration for a few months but this is the first time it's happened. I sent myself a test email from a gmail account which went through fine and I can see it now on all devices. All my old ones are still gone though.

There has been no other issues reported like this.

It sounds like a pop client has retrieved them somewhere. Is there an older device you had been powered on recently or a device sold that may have those settings still? This is usually the most common cause.

Yep,

Sounds exactly what happened to my emails when I set up a new work station recently. Had it configured to sync and delete. The other devices then synced when switched on and deleted everything.

It wasn't a biggie as there were only about 100 emails in the inbox and all important stuff is in folders. This is why I create a new folder marked for 6 month intervals, with nothing configured to sync or delete for those folders in particular. That way, if you make an over-sight like I did with any particular setting, you don't get rid of all your important emails.

If they are not in webmail either, they are gone. There is no way to retrieve emails from webmail.

Yes now that you mention it. I started using Evolution for email when trying out the new Gnome Desktop Environment. That's probably what did it. Thankfully there wasn't anything terribly important in there. Guess I'll know to be more careful next time!

If there emails are still there in Evolution, just connect via IMAP and dump them all back in the inbox

And make folders for 6 month intervals or monthly intervals if you are super careful :)
