So, I signed up with Orcon about five months ago when the website assured me that my address was capable of getting broadband, (I know the website isn't the best way to get such advise, but there's a fibre line directly outside my house which is privately owned by Electricity Ashburton, who allow anyone who is lucky enough to be close to it to use it) however after hearing nothing from Orcon, apart from asking for the first month in advance, I rang the customer service, was told they'd look into it. Turns out I can't get broadband at my place, which I found out via email. Generally speaking, despite the fact that this took around two months, I took it with a grain of salt and waited for my money to be refunded, since it was paid via credit card. My account is still 'open' now with $85 credit so I've been thinking maybe I'll use that to sign up with their rural broadband scheme when I move in a couple of months to a new farm (which has a Vodafone tower only a few hundred meters from the house). Problem now is that there is NO information on their website about it. I got fed up last time dealing with people who could barely be understood as it was.

Essentially, what I'm asking rather long windedly is, what RBI plans does Orcon actually have? I assume they use the Vodafone network? Would it use 3G, HSPA or HSPA+? I currently use my 2degrees phone which is only capable of HSPA but apparently the reception isn't that great there.

First I've heard of Orcon offering a RBI service. There are a number of providers who do offer RBI services though.

At the moment we have the grandfathered Extend product but that is no longer on sale. We have no current plans to release a new RBI product, we will follow Chorus' rollout of additional DSL network - details of that rollout are on the Chorus website.

PM me your details and I will get your account refunded if you wish.

We can't provide services across private fibre such as you describe, that would be entirely between you and the fibre owner.

Ah cheers. A Google search brought up Orcon's rural terms and conditions so I assumed there was still a service there.

I have looked at Ultimate Broadband's website, that's how I found out about EA's fibre line. They're rather expensive though and there's nothing where I'm moving to in a couple of months.
