Currently my router has NF18ACV.NC.Vocus-R6B038.EN as it firmware. Is it the latest firmware and if it's not how can I update to the latest firmware?

Hey Dochart,

The most recent firmware is R6B040 and we can definitely get that updated for you.

You are welcome to flick me a PM so I can help get it sorted.

Cheers,

Matt

Is the update automatic? as we just got our new modem a fortnite to 3 weeks ago (fibre was installed 22/2/19) and it has the NF18ACV.NC.Vocus-R6B038.EN firmware still.

And how long before my nice shiny appleTV arrives they said it would come once the plan had been up and running a few days.

No the update isn't automatic, it is just for helping solve some minor issues that may come up on the old version.

If your service is working fine, then no problems!

The Apple TV should have been ordered by now if you're up and running.

I'm happy to check that out if you wanted to send me a direct message?

Hi @MatteGreen - I've noticed NetComm have pushed out a new firmware on 23 May with a number of WiFi fixes

https://support.netcommwireless.com/product/nf18acv#Firmware

Enhancements
Updated 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi Driver (TT 37972)
Updated WiFi default settings (TT 37982)

Do you know if there is an updated Orcon/Vocus firmware with these enhancements? I'm due a Fibre upgrade this week and my initial testing shows poor range with the Wifi on this device compared with my existing router.

I'm not sure on that one but I've emailed the Assure team to get a proper response for you.

Once I hear back I'll let you know.

This should hopefully be detailed enough.

The wifi performance fixes are part of our mainline rb40 firmware, most of the band steering and associated performance fixes have been a direct result of our work with netcomm. The fixes in netcomms firmware are downstream of ours.

We also have customisations that are not present in mainline firmware, if you purchased the cpe then you can technically do as you please, however not running our firmware will mean no support and will break all our automation.

In summary, yes all performance fixes in netcomms generic firmware are in our specialised firmware.

Let me know if you needed more information.

Thanks for the quick follow up.

I'm a bit puzzled about the performance I'm seeing since my fibre upgrade - I'm just using Fast.com as a simple download test

Raw Fibre = 100Mbps

R7000 2.4 GHz = 16Mbps

R7000 5 GHz = 23Mbps

NF18ACV 2.4 GHz = 24Mbps

NF18ACV 5 GHz = 30Mbp

So the NF18ACV is better but I'd personally be expecting more. My R7000 is running Advanced Tomato which has some known wifi performance issues, and I'd hoped the NetComm with default firmware would be a lot faster.

Interesting. Just re-tested with my tablet and is  it capable of getting close to 100Mbps on 5Ghz but my Tt480s Laptop isn't

Realised I'd restricted my laptop and I've now retested.

I can get 100Mbps on 5Ghz easily, but the 2.4 Ghz range and performance on the NF18ACV is well below my R7000

might be because:

  • R7000 is AC1900 (600 + 1300 Mbps)
  • NF18ACV is AC1600 (300 + 1300 Mbps)

I just installed one today. SS sent me an email and said I am good to go.

My firmware is here: NF18ACV.NC.Vocus-R6B040.EN

My speed is 187 down and 190 up

I'm on the gigantic plan with SS - should be 700 / 500 or close.

I'm not a happy chappy atm

Await reply from SS.

Same here with Orcon Giga+Netcomm NF18ACV. Down 150-200, Up 150-250 is the norm for everyday use & speedtests. The fastest I've ever got was using a download manager is about 300. But Orcon App/Router speed test always shows 900/450 which leads me to believe it's a fake }:|

I can definitely see why you both would be frustrated.

Speeds are never guaranteed but they seem far too close to 100/20 for the gigantic plans.

Feel free to send me your account numbers and I can organise a call back from the appropriate teams.
