Since changing from Skinny (changed because of very bad cell signal) I am on a prepaid account, as I was with Skinny, and now see texts and data being charged even with phone in house and on my network. This never happened with Skinny.

Am I doing something wrong (apart from going to 2D!)? It never crossed my mind that I would pay 2D for every thing from my android phone while at home.

I'm not sure I completely understand the question. If you are using the 2degrees network, you will be charged for it. It doesn't matter whether you are at home or not. The same is true of Skinny.

What 2degrees plan have you signed up for?

If you are on their 10 / month pre paid plan you should not be paying extra for texts. Their unlimited texts are to any NZ or AU network

I am supposed to be on the $10 monthly prepaid as above in djtOtago's post.

I seriously need to talk to 2D. I changed at their store and definitely told them that is what I wanted.

Thanks, people. I am not in my sharpest at the moment looking after my wife who has just had ops for cancer.

@linw sorry to hear about your wife, hope she is doing OK. If you get a moment, let us know what things you're being charged for, there may be an obvious answer.

I have deleted ten replies that were absolutely speculation and never asked the question that should be asked.

Well done, @djtOtago. You were the only one to actually put it in simple terms and try to understand the situation.

Thankyou @freitasm and others who wanted to help.

Sadly, there is a tendency from too many to jump into people wanting help.

Of course, some of the problems brought here are because of the appalling lack of service from companies when we need their help. I have already wasted too much of my life trying to have another problem sorted by 2D.

The 2D store has a phone number but it is not answered - of course. But tomorrow I will be able to leave my wife for a while to visit 2D. Now hope they will credit me my money back.

@RunningMan, thank you for your kind thoughts and offer to look at what they might have put me on.

Looks like they are charging me for everything they can.

All texts @ 20c , incl to 2D

All Data  @ 50c per MB

Calls to other networks

But even with these grifts, at a glance it doesn't look anything like the money I have paid them, so god knows what is going on.

I hope it gets sorted tomorrow.

sounds like you aren't even on a plan at all.

Have you tried installing the 2d app and checking your account to see what's happening?

What you're being charged certainly looks like casual rates as though you are not actually on a plan. Either the plan isn't loaded properly, or has dropped off for some reason - it certainly doesn't line up with the $10 plan. Perhaps it wasn't topped up in time and the plan dropped off or something, but 2D should be able to see fairly quickly once you manage to make contact. You're right though, you should be seeing something pretty similar to what you had with Skinny as the plans are pretty close in what they offer.

I thought I was going nuts reading those earlier, now-deleted responses - some of which were self-righteous and unnecessarily rude and insulting to the OP. I read and re-read them and could not figure out any logic in several of them. Glad sanity has prevailed.

Thank you all for your latest replies.

Yes, maybe my phones aren't on any plan. Looking at my account I can't see any account name/label.

Out of interest, I added up the individual charges on my phone and they came to $26.60. If I double it for our second phone it is just a little different from the large amount I have paid them! The credit on both accounts just keeps nose diving for some umknown reason.

I will go to the store that set these up this morning. I expect they can sort it. Hopefully!!

Cheers.

You can certainly go to a store if you prefer, but you don't need to. You can install the app, which will make it a lot easier, but you can also do it from the IVR (call 233) or via SMS (also to 233). Unfortunately if you just text anything to 233 on its own it isn't very helpful - it will just point you at the web site and ask you to sign up with your email address, so you may as well have just installed the app in the first place.

I was only trying to help. I genuinely don't understand why my reply caused offence but, if it did, then I apologise and I am supportive of it having been deleted by moderators.

@linw This has happened to me in the past. When you top up with credit on your account unless you also choose and buy a prepay plan you will stay on expensive casual rates which is around 50c per minute and will soon chew up your existing credit. It’s a two step process, you first add credit, then you buy a monthly plan.

I suspect when you went to the store, they swapped you over and set you up adding credit but they didn’t enable the $10 plan and so you were on casual rates the entire time. Either a lapse on their part or a misunderstanding.

As above, the simplest way of managing in future is to download the 2 degrees app. You can then buy the plan you want if you have enough credit and you will also have a transaction record to show what you’ve been charged from inception of the changeover.

You didn’t need this angst. Very frustrating for you and especially while under the stress of caring for an ill loved one. Best wishes for her recovery and a peaceful holiday time for you and yours.

*To all the snarky responders, genuine people come on to this forum for help and most are already embarrassed enough to ask what may be obvious to the experts. Instead of wasting space being an ass, how about detailed answers in laymen’s terms that will educate rather than shame.
