Awe

Shock/horror! I got my Slingshot bill today and $111 is just not on par ... After a call, they offered me $96/m

Other less expensive suppliers (without checking the fine print) are as follow:

Ash Net - 85/mo for 9mo then $89/mo
Hotshot - 89.90/mo
Freedom Internet - $95

Should I stay with Slingshot? Or are these other ones just as good/bad (whichever your experience).

Who would you recommend?

Do you actually need fiber that fast? Why not drop down to a 300/100 plan?

Quic Broadband

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Can't help with original question, we have been with One NZ for years and we always seem to get a competitive deal, at least compared to the other "main" retailers. But we did just drop, somewhat nervously, from full speed to a 300/100 plan, and as yet noticed absolutely zero difference. We don't do any gaming though, only streaming and general internet stuff across numerous devices. The change will save us about $25 a month.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Worth noting the 300/100 option is changing to 500/100 in a few months time if still factoring in speed (Chorus led change)

Price is important. I want value for money. So going to a 300/100 plan might be the way to go. Although, those plans are expensive for what it provides.

Do you have a bundled deal? I checked - $96/mo for me (unbundled). Same as 950/500 if I stay with Slingshot

Some providers for 300/100 around $80/mo. Who would you go for?

Simply broadband

2degrees

Electric Kiwi

Hotshot

Ash Net

Econofibre

Freedom Internet

PS - I don't think it will be a problem, but I have a pfSense firewall so if any of the above is not compatible, I won't be interested.

PPS - Slingshot now also $80/mo for 300/100

So quite a few of the ones you’ve mentioned are simply 2degrees resellers.

Quic Broadband (there are many people here with referral links in their signatures) is another to consider. Start with 300/100 and see how you go - they don’t have CG-NAT or anything and are an independent NZ provider. Your PFSense should work no problems with any provider.

Slingshot / Simply Broadband / Electric Kiwi and I suspect Freedom Internet are all 2degrees resellers.

But Quic at $85/mo with a free connection (if you use somebody’s referral) seems to suit your needs well. Just sign up with VLAN 10 if you’ve currently got that active and your connection should just pop over assuming you have not hardcoded anything like DNS servers.

Who's your power with? I was already with Mercury when I took advantage of their six months free offer (works out to $45/month for 12 months on 300/100 plan).

Probably not worth it if you're with someone else.

Another thread about the price of broadband..... NZ has no Idea how lucky it is... my in-laws are on 900/50 and its $99 USD ($175 NZD) plus taxes.... and there is a data cap of 1.25TB and is not full fiber

Then you’re sorted - just sign up with them with VLAN 10 and things will magically move over… No contracts, so nothing to really lose.

Also if a Static IP address is important to you then it’s a once off cost, else you get dynamic addresses. 2degrees for example provide CG-NAT by default.

Spark rang me up today - apparently I have a new Spark Business person assigned to me - and asked if I wanted a router upgrade. I kind of tuned out when she was explaining what was good about it and declined as my Spark Smart Mesh units need the Smart Modem to work.
