I thought Slingshot gave out Dynamic Ip addresses by default, but whenever I reset my modem I always end up with the same ip address. If slingshot doesnt give out Dynamic ip addresses by default does it cost extra to change to one?

thanks

Their IP allocation, by default, is dynamic in the sense that it's not static.
However, it's not a "change on demand" system, so you can't quickly cheat IP-bans/limits.

To get a new IP you've got to leave your modem turned off for ~18 hours or longer.

Why?

I can't think of a legit reason you'd need/want a new IP address quickly.

I only wanted to swap it once because In my Router security log its stating that heaps of things like
Smurf Attacks and SYN Floods have been taking place. I want to see if its false alarms or not. The easiest way I can think of is by changing my ip address and seeing if i still get the same attacks.

But my family members are so obsessed with the internet they wont let me leave it unplugged overnight :( Im just going to have to tell them how serious this could be and hope they let me.

Mostly false alarms. Heaps of botnets out there simply try to attack your router constantly no matter what your ip address is.

I personally like that they dont issue new ip addresses instantly. It means if i need to reboot my modem remotley, i can get in instantly as my no-ip address doesnt mis match while it waits the 10 mins to update.

In the belkin modem/router that i use, the security log show's heaps of SYN Floods etc aswell..
I don't worry about it thoInnocent

Ah ok thanks. If you have the same thing with a Belkin Router then now i know that it must not a problem :D maybe its a fault with belkin Routers?
