Greetings from Finland

I am choosing a transmodulator for broadcasting selected DVB-S channels into our hotel's internal cable network. The question is, are there any bad consequences from choosing DVB-T instead of DVB-C for distributing the channels?

TVs with built-in DVB-T tuner are somewhat cheaper and it's easier to combine broadcasts originated from the transmodulator with the DVB-T broadcasts sent over the air by the regional broadcast station.

Sorry for my bad english.

Hello

Tough question. You might get better answers on other forums...

As I understand it, DVB-C would be more efficient in terms of bandwidth. Otherwise I'd say there is not much difference. So, it depends how many satellite channels you want to transpose. If it is only a few then I'd go with DVB-T for the reasons that you gave previously (TVs have DVB-T built in).

Just wanted to share my experience. We purchased a QPSK->COFDM tansmodulator and there are no issues with using DVB-T in our hotel's internal cable network. However, i found a research paper addressing phase noise issues in large cable networks which use DVB-T instead of DVB-C. Therefore, DVB-T will be fine for a hotel and other mid-sized residential properties.
