Hi,

Is anyone else experiencing issues with FVHD? The last couple of days, my records & viewing from within the EPG are showing intermittent dropped frames & jitter. Also, TV3 is not broadcasting AC3 through my receiver.

Thanks.

I've had huge problems on the TVNZ mux. Signal qualityof 25-45% compared to 97-100% on Mediaworks/Kordia. Makes TVNZ absolutely unwatchable.

Not sure about AC3 though.

I lost signal on both MediaWorks (TiVo) and Kordia mux (Samsung) from Sugarloaf with distance of 16 km at 22:05ish. Only down for 5 seconds or so. No AC3 on TV3.

I have lost AC3 on TV3 on a 22" TV, but I am thinking maybe it's a reception issue as it's only using bunny ears? Was getting it earlier. The main TV has is getting AC3 on TV3 from a STB with aerial on the roof.

Update:

It's the second time I lost AC3. Couldn't work it out. Easier to just Ghost back as I keep regular images.

The jitter issue is more problematic. May be my HVR-2200 card on its way out. I posted over at MP forums

TV3 are only transmitting the AC3 stream for DD5.1 content. It has been this way for a few weeks now.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. It has been this way for a few weeks, so if it is crap - I am sure you would have noticed this "crapness' earlier.

My HTPC and Pioneer Amp changes from THX surround to Dolby Pro Logic automatically, so perhaps in my case it is a little more obvious? But I have to admit on the two Samsung LCDs, it is hard to tell the difference.

I have been too busy to watch much tv over the last few weeks other than in the bedroom which is on a dvb-s box. The few shows I have watched on the home theater have been 5.1 so no, I have not noticed.

Usually just have C4 on when working which is tollerable on the crap speakers on that computer, as is the news etc which I dont bother using the home theater to watch.

Strange. Our STB connects to the HT amp using optical. The HT amp shows Dolby D EX for TV3, and Neo:6Cinema (or whatever other mode we set it to) for the other channels. Whereas our 2nd TV, a reasonably new 22" Samsung with built-in FV|HD (only connected with bunny ears), shows only AAC-HE even though some time ago DD showed up on it.

Surely what shows up on your TV would depend what the default audio stream the TV was set to?

If you have the TV set to use the AAC stream then you wont get the Dolby stream unless you select the Dolby audio feed each time you change to tv3.

If you had the TV set to default to the Dolby stream then when switching to TV3 it should automatically pick up Dolby and should just fall back to the AAC feed on the others.

Is this what you mean?

On the 22", I have tried pressing the tools button and switching "DUAL I II" audio to DD on TV3, but it only shows HE-AAC. I should perhaps try plugging it into the roof aerial sometime to rule out reception issues.

I must admit, it had me scratching my head a few weeks ago. Aside from the Panny in the lounge, we have Samsungs in the family room and bedroom. I noticed that the DD had dropped from TV3 and they were showing AAC-HE only. A couple of days after I noticed this, I was watching a programme that had DD 5.1, rushed into the family room and voila - the Samsung had changed to DD again. At the end of the programme it switched back to AAC.

Not a very scientific answer I know, but that is what happened and I have not really looked into it further since than.

Cheers DB

Samsung TV's all have firmware issues and most don't let you access the AC3 streams, you're stuck with HE-AAC.

A handful of firmware releases for some models do let you select between AC3/AAC, every other IDTV TV in the marketplace lets you select this. The handling in the Samsung firmware is broken on most TV's.

And you can trust me when I say there is nothing you can do or nobody at Samsung or Radiola who cares about this issue in the slightest. I've tried following it up numerous times with various people as it was an issue I raised with the two Samsung TV's I reviewed.
