Is anybody else having this same issue? I get a message (and have been all day) that the server returned information the app can't process and to check for a software update. There is no update and I'd like to think what ever the problem is, it will be solved before the impending snow storm. Normally I'd be happy to just use the weather info from Google Now, (which is surprisingly accurate) except the Metservice app cost money.

The Metservice website is not working at the moment due to hardware issues, using a backup site. Perhaps the app uses an API that is simply not responding because the main site is down?

That would make sense. I didn't realise the site was down.

Hardware failure apparently:

There was a hardware failure plus the back-up so we have our back-up site available in the interim http://www2.metservice.com/tv.html Thanks for your patience! ^NB

The metservice site is still out.

It is not just a hardware failure -- it is a business failure and it makes you question whether they had redundancy plans.

They had better have a decent reason for this lengthy failure, given that two weeks ago they were banging on about how they were using "cloud computing as a backup for its Wellington data centre"

Doh!

The lack of rain radar caught me out yesterday a bit.  Rain radar is the best , and it was amazing when they changed the update frequency from 1 hour to 7 minutes (or so).

Now, I can plan to go for a run between rain showers.

MetService aren't the only people out there with weather forecasts and data for NZ...

You could always give a non-Government owned provider a try :)

@minigopher17 : very true.

And, metservice say they had a double failure so it sounds like they were a bit unlucky.

However, I wonder if the redundancy had ever actually been tested.
