I'm looking for a cheap (>$100) phone, for which a primary use would be playing music (through bluetooth headphones, so its speakers are relatively unimportant).

Do any phones stand out, or are they all pretty much the same? I notice Sony has its Walkman App, but I don't know if that's worth worrying about.

In particular, I'd like to be able to get other music from old CDs (presumably via ripping them onto Windows Media Player) onto the phone, to be played offline. How would I go about doing this, and again, are any specific phone models better than others for it?

I use a cheap Nokia Lumia in my car connected to the stereo purely for the purpose to use as a music player
It is cheap & easy to use, and it has mix radio. Once enabled (a small trick to get it to work in NZ), it'll give you FREE ad-free music streaming that is also offline capable - you can create, mix and download up to 4 ad-free streams for offline use, and the download is valid for up to 2 weeks before you either need to refresh the stream or download new ones, and again it is FREE. I also have a microSD card installed to store MP3s. For more intensive things the phone is a bit crap, but as a music player with a free offline ad-free music streaming service it is good value. You can pick up Lumia's like the Lumia 530 for under $100.

Ive got a Lumia 520 and use it for music all the time via headphones and a bluetooth speaker. Throw in an 8GB SD card, and youve got plenty of space for music.
