I was trying to buy a Kingston 32GB microSDHC Class 10 and pick it up before Thursday but pbtech didn't have them in stock. They suggested to replace with Apacer (same spec). My other thought was a Sandisk (ditto) but it's $30ish instead of $20ish.

Is it worth the extra $10 or should I go with the Apacer? Is they decent?

If you need a SD card with top all round performance then Scandisk or Samsung are usually the best.

Kingston are usually a bit further back in performance.

If cheap storage is the main thing you need, then Apacer are fine for that.

That was kinda my thought. The Kingston and Apacer were the same price, so I picked Kingston. Now I have to decide between Apacer and Sandisk, I think I'll probably just go with the Sandisk. It's only $10, and if Apacer are third tier, I don't really want that.

I've had a little bit of experience with the Apacer cards, and I wouldn't touch then again. The 32GB microSD that I bought for use in my S4 died after a fairly short period, maybe a month or 2 at most. I replaced that with a Sandisk Extreme card and it's been working just fine for the best part of 2 years now.

So you had one dud and now they're all duds what's the bet if you'd have taken it back and gotten a replacement it would still be working fine now... when buying electronics you need to remember that they may just be a dud from the factory they don't test each and every piece of equipment that they produce if they did it would cost twice as much as it does ..

I've had Kingston and Samsung and Sandisk cards go south, taken them back for replacements and they are all still running fine after 2~3 years infact I have and old 512MB Apacer sd card that still works fine not that I use it for anything as it's now just to small for my needs

The "little bit of experience" was supposed to imply that I've used more than one of their products, but it obviously want that clear. The one example I gave was just the most recent.

Between 2011 and 2013 I bought something like 4 Apacer microSD cards and 1 Apacer SD card. They were cheap, and looked like a good deal. Of those purchases, only a single 2GB microSD is still working. The rest had all died within a year of purchase.

And yes, even the big name brands fail. I've had a Sandisk Ultra SD card go flaky, corrupting data and refusing to reformat. But of the 7 Sandisk flash storage products I've owned, it's been the only one to give me any trouble.

The only advice I can give after a decade of buying flash storage products is that you generally get what you pay for. There are always going to be duds no matter which brand you buy, but the chance seems to go down as the price goes up.
