After updating a Spark branded S9+ to Pie my boldbeast call recorder has stopped working.
Dont want to have to root the phone ideally

Any workarounds?

My understanding is that new restrictions in Android Pie dont allow call recording.

Time to root the phone unfortunately.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

That's not good.

Wonder what it will mean for phones with call recording supplied in the factory image like xiaomis?

Has it banned call recording or only access to the phone number that it's coming from? I find call recording quite helpful at times, I had it turned on for years mostly for a record of calls with ACC, but turned it off once I stopped dealing with them.

So basically as useless as an iPhone now for people who want to create records of what they have discussed.
