As it happens my partner has just made the move from a Nokia 7 Plus to a OnePlus Nord, and it’s a great improvement and I’d certainly recommend it as a decent phone at that price point (we paid $729). If she hadn’t gone for the Nord it was going to have been a Samsung A71, which is a similar price (about $700).

Note the Nord doesn’t have a headphone jack, whereas the audio A71 does. I’ve just ordered her a couple of USB adapters off eBay, but I agree that the exclusion of a jack is usually not enough of a reason to not buy a specific phone if it otherwise ticks the other boxes.

How about a lightly used Moto G8 plus?

Otherwise it depends what's important to you. What size do you want?

I just got a Pixel 4A which is a great compact size, has a great camera, only downside I've found so far is battery life is good but not great. Otherwise Samsung S10E is a similar size and features, available locally, slightly larger battery. I had the Xiaomi 9T but sold it because the fingerprint reader was TERRIBLE - go hardware rather than in-screen IMHO. I suspect the reason I didn't get S10E was in-screen fingerprint reader, but I think Samsung are better than Xiaomi there.

S10E has the fingerprint reader built into the power button, unlike any of the other S10 series.

Not all in-screen fingerprint readers are the same... The higher-tech one my S10+ is faaaaar more irritating to use than the one in my partner's Nord, for example.

I've had a S10E for 6 months and love it - got it from Spark for $849 but not sure if they still have them.  The fingerprint reader is on the power button and works fine

This seems like a solid deal if you are a Voda or 2D user? (Oneplus 7T 128GB for $440USD inc shipping)

Someone else was looking for a new S10e the other day on here; at that point 1-day had them new ($750), but now they only have them refurbished ($700).

Just be mindful that few places in NZ sell accessories for the Nord - a couple of weeks ago I couldn't see anything including on TM. The phone comes with a basic plastic screen protector and a slim case; with that glass back personally I'd be looking to put it in a decent case ASAP. I've been really impressed with the battery life of the Nord, though, versus my S10+ - with low usage it looks like it'll last three days no problems.
