My to date, trusty 5A bricked itself today, came back for a few hours then fully S*** the bed.

Have had a read through the forums but cant seem to find a definitive answer as to what tech does or doesn't work with parallel imported Pixel phones in NZ.
- Looking at likely an 8A to replace, purchasing locally as am currently phoneless, use Spark as carrier. will the below work?

  • 5G?
  • VoLTE?
  • voWIFI?

found this on Sparks compatibility listing, would seem unfathomable the 8A would somehow buck this trend....

I've brought back a Pixel 8a from JB Hifi Australia and can confirm VoLTE, VoWifi and 5G are operational on Skinny (Spark).

Thanks yea, sorry never followed up brought the 8a week after this post.

Initially 5G wasn't working but just noticed the last couple of weeks it's engaged so spark must've sorted whatever behind the scenes to get it working on 8a's.

Phone wise it's a bit of a sideways upgrade, doesn't "feel" any faster than my 5a and battery life is about the same.

New features.... Vo-wifi is nice but meh is it life changing ? camera I'm sure is an upgrade but also, meh when you looking at it on its own screen 🤷

Good to hear you're up and running! Only got this phone into the country last weekend so 5G would've been set up by then as you noted; I have a Pixel 7a myself and it took some help from others on this forum to kick start the VoWifi/VoLTE/5G features at the time.

The Pixel 8a could be the first Android phone I've heard of where the security and O/S updates (up to May 2031) outlive the phone!
