Hi, we've just bought a Samsung LED TV (model UA37D5000PM). We can't get it to connect to our Sky decoder, it just says "weak or no signal, check connection." We've bought a new SCART cable but that's made no difference - the TV recognises the cable is connected, but still says no signal.

Sky still works fine on our old TV, so we've gone back to using that for now! Could it be the decoder itself that isn't compatible with the new TV? (We've had this decoder for a few years.) We've phoned Sky, but they didn't have any ideas other than to change the cable and if that didn't work then call out a Sky technician.

Any ideas welcome.

Did you change the tv to component or composite on the av selector.

You need to select the correct input on the TV. Sounds like you have it set to the tuner but it should be AV1 or something like that

How is it connected to your old TV. Component, composite, rf?

How are you connecting to your new TV?

Be aware not all SCART cables are the same. Could be SCART-Component, SCART-Composite and some may be input or output only.  Make sure the cable has the output plugs into the TV and not input plugs.

Also, some SCART cables have an input/output switch on them. If yours does, it needs to be set correctly.

Then it's just a process of elimination.

1. Check the cable has the right plugs and (silly as it sounds but it's worth checking) that you have plugged them into the correct inputs.
2. Check the TV is set to the correct input
3. Check that the sky decoder is set to output over SCART, in the correct format, on the output you are using.
4. Try connecting something else that has SCART output, if you have access to something, to the TV on the same input.
5. Try a different cable - it could be defective.

This will not help to get the signal on the TV, but you will need to set the STB to YPbPr not RGB.
Give s-video a try if the upscaling is not so good. On my TV I had trouble with the STB outputs not well synchronised so you get colour edges, for me s-video was the best solution even though it is obviously slightly lower bandwidth.

Edit: Sorry, looks like your TV does not have s-video but might help someone else.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Thanks for all your replies, folks! Much appreciated.

JimmyH, I didn't know that the Sky decoder could be set for component, composite, etc. Have just found where that option is, so I'll give that a go tomorrow. The decoder is the only thing we haven't changed, so you might be onto something there. :)
