NonprayingMantis:

nothing else will work with Sky as they control everything about it.  hence why they have no incentive to make it better as there is no option for people who want a different pvr on sky.

all other pvrs will only work with freeview.

Yes, i tried to upgrade the mysky hd box for which I paid $600 to the larger harddrive but sky want another $600.

Absolute thieves, but, where else can I watch the rugby.

Sky is about the programming.

jamesrobert: I don't think that it is a good idea to use a MySky for archiving programmes. Better to transfer the ones you want to keep to another hard drive; it is possible.

How?

How?

Read previous post by Goosie.
Real time transfer to a PC or another recording device.
Tedious but probably the only way otherwise loss of all archived recordings when new box is supplied and old one returned.

I used a Scart out with composite (yellow, red, white) cable into VCR, then later into DVD-R. Not HD of course.

I paid $600 for mysky SD when it was first released.   Then, I think I paid $15 to upgrade to mysky HD several years later and went to multi-room with the old silver mysky box.

Sky say that in my specific situation must now pay $600 to upgrade to a larger HDD.

There is no guarantee you will get a new box as your replacement. I have had my MySkyHDi box replaced three times, and each replacement has been a refurbished unit. The first unit was new and lasted a decent length of time, but the refurbs crap out a lot more quickly hence I am now onto box number 4.

Goosey: no, I wasnt trying to imply anything other than 'call sky'. Now we know you have content you want to save... could you try good old fashion play back of all these programs while your recording to PC or another PVR of sorts (borrow / or buy a cheap RCA/HDMI to USB video converter). Im sure a few all night play backs (using the built in scheduler) could solve your 1st world problems !

+1
You basically have too much data stored and they are not designed for permanent storage. They're intended for recording, watching later then deleting.

if they were not intended for "permanent storage" why advertise them as watch later and when you want

I have some shows I recorded last xmas still on my myskyhdi and have no problems.  Because I want to watch it when I want too and just have not had the time.

I upgraded to myskyhdi from mysky HD - same situation as you - paid upfront for the box and thne paid the $15 for the HD componant and it only cost me $149 because I already paid upfront.

I would argue with them.  And reference posts on this forum.
