Got the HD ticket on my Sky basic package after having asked customer support if it would give me HD on all channels and they said yes.

Installer was here today and he told me the HD ticket only gets me 3 channels on HD as long as I have no sports or movie channels. Is that right?

So I have been duped by Sky customer service?!

Ah yes, so paying $10 a month for upgrading 3 channels. Whoo hoo :D So the installer was right, customer service lied to me. (Or just plain out didn't know their stuff, which seems about right).

TV1,2,3 are in HD by default anyway.

The HD Ticket only upgrades Movies, Sport.

So if you don't have movie or sport, get rid of your HD ticket.

After seeing what a low bitrate macroblocky affair that Sky transmissions are i would also ask for two months free or better still cancel. To get Sky with no HD channels is actually quite sad. Only channels I watch are Sport and SoHo, the image quality is so bad on the rest I've banned their viewing in the house.

Personally I think they should put a stop to this whole HD ticket thing. If the marketing suggests that the device is an HD device (such as mysky HDi) then HD should be included at no charge. Its like selling someone a car and then charging them $10/month to use the spark-plugs.

Also, as pointed out its the 21st century, we expect HD content as standard

Ring up. Explain what happened. Tell them you were mislead and want to cancel the HD ticket, and want them to refund what you have paid so far.

It's useless unless you have the Sports and/or Movies package.

I've argued for sometime that HD is no longer premium.

But, sky are a monopoly so what'ya gonna do?

Like sounddude said tv 1, 2 and 3 are in HD just with the basic package if you have a mysky hd decoder. If you don't have sport or movies the hd ticket is worthless to you. So If you don't have sport or movies I have no idea why they would let you get the HD ticket as it doesn't give you anything extra. and i'd do what jimmyh said and ring them up and ask for a refund.

It's like selling a Ferrari and having a speed tax of $10 to go faster than 80KM/h ;)

-- I agree, this whole "ticket" thing is stupid, HD should be standard for all the compatible channels free of charge. After all we're paying extra for the MySky decoder.

The HD ticket has been my pet peeve, as is Mysky HDi the only way to get HD. The same with paying for Multiroom to access the content you are already subscribed to.
I can't wait for Internet TV to be more prominent.

Vote with your feet - there is no other option. They won't listen until their returns/profitability declines. At the end of the day if people keep paying them for below quality service/product, then they will continue to sell it. Sure it means you likely won't have this or that, which you would have had if you had otherwise paid for it, but if you do give them your money, each and every person who does, is only perpetuating the problem.

If someone wanted to pay for something crap that I had; would I stop them? Hell no! Roll up!

As has been said before - Sky are thieves.
