Got the wife to watch a couple of clips.  Although not as critical as me, she definitely feels the iPad app is better quality than the PC/browser.  However she added that had she not seen the iPad app she would not complain about the quality/performance of the browser playback - it's "watchable".

also... please increase the buffer size? Netflix gives a 5 min buffer, and I watched a whole movie yesterday - once it built the initial buffer - without issue.

watching S1E1 "Orphan Black" and every 5 mins it takes a minute or two off to buffer :(

Fair enough I'm only on a 1Mb/s ADSL link on a 4.7km copper line to the (fibre backbone) exchange... but surely they'd equate, especially as the slowness of my link would negate the DNS geo-unblock difference with local and offshore content (as EVERYTHING is slow :)

*To confirm, dns4me is OFF when playing the lightbox content*

Sorry for spamming!  Another thought...

I agree that when it automatically moves on to the next episode when you press stop it's frustrating.  The whole point of on demand is so that you can stop it and come back to it another time - this will mean I will have to remember whether I finished the previous episode and if not how far in I was.  It needs to remember where it was in the episode as we are used to on so many other on demand services as well as programs like VLC and XBMC.

Although I don't get a mixed content message in Chrome there is a problem.  Here's a screenshot of the SSL message;

A back button from the program to the previous position on the program list would be good too but I can live without that.

In answer to an earlier comment about the window not showing itself, I get that too.  I have to minimise all the other windows to get to the player window (Chrome) and it doesn't matter if the window is full screen or not and doesn't happen all the time either! I guess there is a problem with window focus in the programming.  There are no problems if using tabs of course.

Please, please, please use the new thread to post problem reports (which the mixed content is, although they are aware of it).

I'm big on the UX side of things believing that any technical issues can be resolved so my input is more around that. I think as it is right now is quite nice.

I would like to see the menu that appears on hovering over the programme fade in and out, makes it more pleasant on the eye. In this menu I would also like to see the rating and episode lengths too.

While in playback I would suggest the time counts down on the left rather than show the total time.

With your main focus on TV I think you should have an instant next/choose next episode menu come up 15-30 seconds before the show ends. Its good that it automatically loads up the next episode when you exit the player but I would prefer to stay in the player to go to the next episode if I'm so inclined to binge.

I think there could also be some more UX tweaks to make it even prettier but I assume this is not the finished (polished) UX?

Just minor things and I'm sure some of them have been mentioned already. It's the little details that when pulled off will smoke the competition.

Can Lightbox please explain the reason behind having a PIN for profiles? I think it's annoying. If it is to have children not access certain content can maybe a PIN be optional? I would prefer to have the ability to swap profiles without a PIN since I don't have kids.

My thoughts so far:

Quality: Really good. I believe there was some jitter because I was watching on a laptop connected via an HDMI cable. Netflix looks slightly more crisp for some reason (superhd?). Audio is fine.

Content: Very impressive for a start.

UI: Simple and easy to use, but could improve.

Suggestions:

Content: Is telecom thinking about getting rights to broadcast 'foreign' category shows (Chinese, Korean, Indian, Latin, Middle Eastern). Looking at the demographic diversity in NZ, I don't see why that wouldn't work.

UI: On the player controls, it might be a good idea to have an indication of whether it's streaming in HD or not.

We've not done any deals with anyone about zero rating - so if we are, it's no thanks to us...

Lightbox - we are online TV.
