solaybro: I have only ever accessed Lightbox from my Laptop but I have 3 devices added. The devices show as 'my name-Laptop', 'PC Computer', and 'PC Computer' again. Why is it doing this?

DNS/VPN ever used? Or maybe you have several different browsers and each is seen as unique?(though sure I. Saw LB's Jakob say this wouldn't. Matter)

Maybe 'Private' mode on?

I have only ever used chrome with no VPN and with the same DNS.

Mines the same - entry 1 is my iPad, entries 2-5 are PC Computer.  Now I admit I have used 2 computers - my home PC and my work laptop.  I have not connected using a VPN but have used a DNS on the home PC to test whether the DNS had any impact.

I believe it was said early on that this method of restriction was going to be problematic.  Five devices in a modern household is very low; 2 iPads, 1 laptop, 1 PC and 4 phones!  Once you add TV apps to the equation then most households will not stand a chance.

I can understand restricting concurrent logons and even having different plans for the number of devices and whether in HD but restricting to 5 and then only allowing one device to be swapped per month is going to be a headache for the Spark support staff with complaint after complaint of not being able to access the service.

If you are going to stick with this - I suggest that when a new device has been detected then ask the user to provide a friendly name - PC Computer 5 times will not help anybody.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

peejayw: Could not play anything this morning, "Playback error, cannot register more devices." I had a look at the settings and there were 5 "PC Computer" entries.
Funny, there are only 2 laptops in the house.
I deleted one entry but still the same problem.

If you're aggressively clearing out browsers after each session or browsing privately, you'll get exactly this behaviour (your machine won't identify itself as the one we have on our books, so it gets registered again and again).

Lightbox - we are online TV.

i have used the site from 1 computer only using the same browser and its listing 2 in my profile. needs to be a better way to log them because i my wife and son were to use their devices there could easily be 4-5 different devices using it depending on how we wanted to connect. bit off it you have to remove the device and you can only delete one every 30 days

Device limitations isn't something we requested - it's an innate part of the content deals (and you're not going to sign up any attractive content without adhering to it). We may see a change over time, but for now they're a fact of life.

We're looking into better naming conventions around devices - ideally automatically populating it with something more meaningful, but otherwise we'd ask you to manually name it (like we do on the iPad currently).

So in the meantime how do I get back to being able to view Lightbox or do I wait for 30 days and delete an entry again?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I can see it being a big issue for more devices to be added than you have used. I can only add another 2 devices because two devices have popped up randomly. That means I can have 3 devices now even though I would be paying for five.

Thanks, all sorted. I have had to reset my computer a few times due to a wee problem with a Windows 8.1 update, guess that was causing new devices to be added.

Can the device limit not be changed to 'concurrent users' instead?

If not, could you perhaps initiate a pop up 'confirm' of a new device so the user at least knows each time one's created? This would not cause much issue once the initial setup is done, but might help prevent the current state where one PC is registered over and over without the user knowing until they ran out.

If clearing or preventing cookies along with browsing privately causes you to use a device each time you use the service you are going to be inundated with help requests.

Yeah that’s insane, our household has 1 desktop, 3 laptops, 2 phones and a tablet we are already over the limit

Take into account both ff and chrome update almost fortnightly now

Also if you use more than 1 browser...

This already causes issues with SkyGO but obviously sky don’t care that much

At the very least you should not be blocking based on desktop web browser, netflix doesn’t block based on this they just limit the number of streams,  so it must be possible to get that deal with the providers

Good luck with your help desk ;)

I've been spending to much time on reddit today

Another X-Files out of sync. Started ok. Went screwy and almost came back.

Season 1, Episode 10 (or 11). Episode called Eve. Can't remember if you counted the "Pilot" as number 1.

I think it being based on browser is a bug. I watch Lightbox on both Chrome and Firefox on the same PC without any issues >.<

You get 5 devices/browsers so you can use chrome and ff at the same time.  It's when you get browser upgrade/changes that the issues start
