sdav: Hey not sure of this has been reported. On iPad while watching a movie if you flick up the quick menu to adjust brightness and then flick it back down you have no playback controls in light box. Tried it twice and it quit to the menu and I had to start the episode again.

Thanks, we'll reproduce and fix.

So, we've done a couple of updates, including to the Silverlight player.

Can those of you that reported stuttering earlier check if that's still affecting your streaming?

Bit short notice, as we'll be closing the beta tomorrow sometime. Sorry about that....

Well done - Video appears to be much smoother during panning shots with less stuttering. Much easier on the eyeballs unless it's just all in my mind and my brain has adapted after the many hours of Lightbox testing :)

Looking better overall.

Tested using HTPC, Windows 7, Firefox, 130 inch projector display.

Playback of Law & Order (First season available) E 05 (Public Service Homicide), I'm getting a lot of stuttering in the first few minutes, a simultaneous Netflix stream is happening, however that is only hitting 1.4-1.6Mbit/s, and the box I was streaming Lightbox from only hit around 4Mbit/s (although that may be a fault of graph smoothing.

It's possible that it's a buffering thing, but buffering-related stuttering at ~4Mbit/s, surely it should've tried backing off a bitrate?

n.b. Lightbox site is acting odd now, white pages/blank branded pages etc now, hence why uncertain of season.

Details same as my Mad Men S2E1 report (except true 1080p monitor now), incidentally that video is still bad.

~~~
Edit:
So the site stopped acting up and I played ~12 minutes of Nashville S01E01, same thing, I can't help but wonder if it's an adaptive streaming thing, it went kinda like this:
First minute: Lots of stuttering
Second minute: Next to none
Third minute: Stuttering again until about the 5th minute
Fifth minute onwards: Very smooth
RRD chart based on switch data for the network port in question:
(Full Size)
Another thing of note:  Windows 8.1 + Mouse Without Borders, with no keyboard/mouse focus on the machine I was playing from in Silverlight full screen, the OSD kept popping up. Mostly likely fall in a 0.1%er category here, but just an FYI.
~~~

Edit 2:  4th Gen iPad plays fine, doing a live graphing (instead of relying on RRD's 5-minute smoothed graphs) on the AP port showed ~4 Mbps

Playing again on Silverlight showed very peaky access, it really feels like it's able to fill the buffer fast, then gets confused as it accesses the buffer then refills it, (i.e. it'll hit 15Mbps as it fills the buffer, then go quiet for say 15-30 seconds, then ramp up to say 10Mbps, drop down to 0, up to 10Mbps, down to 0, up to 20Mbps, down to 5Mbps...)

Ep 2, was smoother playback and smoother streaming from a network PoV, up to 18Mbps as the buffer filled, then ~4Mbps for a while, a small hit up to ~8Mbps then back to ~4Mbps.

With the OSD, when it was refusing to hide itself I found clicking away from the OSD panel with the mouse pointer out of site at the edge of the screen would hide the panel. Finding it happily hides itself after a few seconds now though, which it wasn't before.

Smooth video playback now with all the previous clips I had tested.

Would Lightbox care to disclose what the original problem was and how it was remedied?

The way Silverlight handles hardware acceleration has changed at some point, meaning that it has to be enabled several different places, so it simply wasn't enabled. Some people on here spotted that, which we then corrected.

About mouse pointers and controllers timing out - that's not in the current build, but I've just tested it in our pre-production environment and we'll roll it into production before we launch.

So the playback is smooth now, regardless of using the DNS?

Many factors go into video quality - hardware acceleration was one. DNS/VPN is another one.

I've been thinking about my playback problems since the consensus seems to be that it's fixed for most people.  I did a test earlier today during my late lunch (~2pm ish), with two machines and the problematic episode of Nashville.

PC 1: One of the original 'IYE' NUCs (i3-3217U w/ 8GB RAM, 1920x1080 via HDMI, Intel HD4000) - Stuttering a lot in the first few minutes - always in the same point.
PC 2: AMD FX-6300 (w/ 20GB RAM, 1920x1200 + 1920x1080 monitors both DVI-DVI, NVidia GT630 - Lightbox was full screen on the 1920x1080 monitor) - Smooth as silk playback - first connected to Lightbox today.

Of note, the NUC in Silverlight didn't have the Hardware Accel box checked, so I enabled that and tried again, same thing again, stuttering basically at the same points every time.  Wondering if it was some odd cache issue, I tried it on an 'alt' user I have on that box, verified that Hardware Accel was enabled, then logged in, and again, exact same stutter.

Just to further rule out cache issues from when Hardware Accel was unticked on the NUC, I just tried Homeland S1E1, and exact same thing (lots of stuttering on NUC, no stuttering on my normal machine).

Something seems 'odd' for sure.   The graphics used to be a bit stuttery before (i.e. the player that had the version number in the bottom right) but never like this (i.e., this is proper stutter in both Audio & Video).

Has the beta test period ended?  I haven't been able to log on from my laptop or from the iPad app since yesterday.
