Hi Jakob,

> Are you also seeing buffering when playing directly to the iPad/PC?

Yes.  As above, also to Mac and PC over Ethernet.

>Airplay puts a lot of strain on the WiFi network - so while your incoming connection might be all good, the internal network could be having trouble. I'd also make sure yourApple TV is on the latest firmware version.

The ATV is on the latest version.   I have a gigabit backbone and the ATV is connected by Ethernet.   When playing on the Mac (connected by EThernet), I play to the ATV (on Ethernet) via Airplay.

> For the Chrome HDMI out issues, I'd look at cleaning the Silverlight installation and redoing it - a corrupted Silverlight install can cause issues like you're seeing.

OK, will do.   However, this is giving the same buffering issues on both Mac and PC platforms.

> Wonderstuff and oldmanakbar, I've sent you both a PM with a diagnostic link for you to click. We have had an unusual number of reports from your ISP.

OK, responded.

Oldmanakbar - looks like we have very similar issues.

Fyi. - on the PC I reinstalled Silverlight but no improvement.
Tonight it was probably the worst, buffering every few mins. Took about 90 mins to watch a 60 min episode of Outlander.

Well, I gave it a go but no dice.

Managed to get the first 5 episodes of vikings and then everything started going wrong, constant buffering on episode 6.
Tried a few different episodes at different times but all came back to buffering. Sub came up for renewal and it just can't be justified - shame, love the idea and the content is much better than expected. (anyone that complains about the $15 needs to be put down).

oh well

I had issues with lightbox on Chrome HDMI out.  But I managed to solve most of the stuttering by changing something in the properties of silverlight to do with the cache for http://lightbox.co.nz and https://lightbox.co.nz Still having some issues now and again but i would blame that on ADSL.

I will take screenshots of said setting when I get home as I'm currently doing a late shift.

Lightbox's helpdesk is doing a good job.  They have responded quickly to a couple of issues I've raised.

After re-checking the setting was for Application Storage.

Both http://lightbox.co.nz and https://lightbox.co.nz only require 1mb.  Silverlight support says that if an application requires more storage it will prompt for more.

Silverlight will only allow to Turn off Application Storage.

However there is also a setting under playback to enable hardware-accelerated playback.  Could be worth checking to see if its turned off. just right click on the video and click silverlight.

Silverlight. Sigh. Sooner they use HTML5 EME the better.

psychnurse:
bopfrog: I have had lightbox on for 2 weeks. Quality is great, but the stream randomly stops (no indication of buffering) so I go back to the main screen, select the episode, click watch and it all goes fine. Doesn't act like a streaming issue. I have had some episodes play all the way through and others stop every 10 minutes or so.
I have used IE and chrome so far. Wifi to modem.

Same using ipad and apple tv.

My Lightbox streaming experience is generally very good but I also have this problem on a fairly regular problem with the iPad and Apple TV.  Some programs I have no streaming halts, others it will happen a number of times. I'm on Spark vdsl, my Apple TV is 100Mb ethernet connected and my WiFi by all accounts is pretty good (I have Airport Express's).  I do however use overseas DNS servers on my adsl router, so I'm wondering if this could be contributing to the freezes in the stream.

Routing your traffic overseas and then back to NZ will not help performance. Internal WiFi is also often a factor around Airplay, since it creates a significant load on the internal network.

Well I'm not so impressed with Lightbox service.

I've had the stuttering problem (then showing "buffering" sometimes) since the start.  I raised a support call with Lightbox 10 days ago, asked for an update 3 days ago and still nothing. So that's 10 days without any progress or status update.

If only LightBox would give proper customer service, but I guess it's too much to ask for suggesting  replacing Silverlight it with HTML5.

If anyone has Silverlight tweaking instructions, please let me know.

Converting their Silverlight to HTML5 will cost a lot I would assume, I don't see how they can justify spending again when they haven't earned anything yet.

But for the buffering and stuttering issues, when you always get them, it means it's in your machine setup. If you do get it sometimes only, it may be due to a lot of things other than pc setup (e.g. DNS routing, ISP etc...).

You can try:
1. clearing history/cache
2. allow more than 1mb for silverlight storage
3. re-install silverlight
4. use a different browser
5. if you have an iphone/ipad device, try it there. if it's the same as the pc then it may be your DNS or ISP settings.

Good luck!

Our number one issue with LightBox at the moment is the inability to reliably pause shows.

We watch by using AirPlay to stream from our iPads (either iPad2 or iPad Air, both running iOS 7.1) to an Apple TV3 (running latest OS). If we pause a show for long enough (generally > 1 minute), playback will only resume for the remaining content that was buffered when playback was paused (approximately 1 minute). So it seems to me that once a show has paused for a set period of time, it refuses to continue to buffer once playback resumes.

This is a real PITA, as in order to recover you need to exit playback, select the previous episode (as the UI has now positioned you at the next episode in the series), press Play, then use the scrubber to try and position yourself at the point in time where playback stopped.

Are there any other users out there with a similar setup, and if so are you seeing the same issue?

Hi dclegg,

That's a confirmed bug and we're currently putting the next iPad update together which will include a fix for this.
