My installer confirmed that Sky broadcasts in 1080i and he recommends the HD Ticket on newer, HD TV's only.

While he was on the phone activating the account he got them to switch HD ticket on and off while I was watching the Hurricanes v Highlander's final replay. The HD ticket 'on' made a significant improvement so I told them to leave it on. We have a 2014 Panasonic Plasma THP50S60Z.

I think I have the same TV, last time I had SKY I didn't have the HD ticket and the free to air channels always looked better through freeview HD

I've just signed up for this deal too (basic, sports, soho, MySky+ for $49.22) - and was also asked if I saw it on Geekzone. For anyone who may be interested they also offered me a cheaper deal for $29 or so for the basic channels only.

The HD ticket will make no difference to the FTA channels, they are broadcast by sky in 1080i regardless. They may have looked better on freeview uhf due to less compression.

Its funny how Sky sux, content is rubbish, ditching Sky now, turns to I'll get it now   when there is a deal. How has the deal improved the content and sux-ness?

Same here re post RWC axing... I've only just recently re subscribed (using the offer in this post) after 8 years hiatus and will be dropping it at the very latest when the 12 month pricing expires. VOD services have rendered SKY almost completely irrelevant for me.

Would be good if they offered a Sports only package at a reasonable price but I can't see them changing their business model any time soon...

As I see it, VOD is not ready for prime time. A minority are geeks, sorted. A minority are older folk who don't want to know about tech, even if you or me set it up for them. They want turn the telly on. They are ok with MySky recorder or a Freeview HDD recorder. If they had a FV+ HDD recorder that Dish will bring out soon they wont be watching VOD on 3Now, that will be just a channel to them. They don't want to airplay from an iPad, hook up a laptop to the telly, or cast anything, too hard. And they don't want a number of devices or methods to watch one telly. It needs to be easy, 2 boxes for everything. A PS3 they would be ok with for Netflix, Lightbox, Neon, etc, but it needs to be marketed as easy to use. It is, but I don't feel it's perceived that way, yet.

I feel Sky will change their business model, when it's clear they have to. They might accept a lower ARPU, and cut costs to equalise that, and maybe set a plan as $x per month and price content per ep or per channel, but a time will come when they will have to adapt.

They will. Right now I don't see a shift in viewing habits, GZ and others excepted. Post RWC may see a spike, but I reckon what's needed is TV advertising, how easy it is, how cheap it could be. Those on the fence need to see it in action IMHO

Got offered $39/month for a single premium channel (e.g. sport) + MySky + free install. Saves $10/month for those who don't want movies. Same phone number as the first page.
