Wade: Am i in the minority here in owning non smart tv's?
tdgeek:qyiet: Add me to the Panasonic TV owners club. Before that it was a Sony.. but I've vowed for the 2nd time never to buy their products again. (The first time was after the rootkit fiasco. The 2nd time was the PSN passwords in plain text. They seem to make nice hardware, but their software is shocking)
Panny here too, same model the smaller one, 42, in bedroom. I can use my iPad to it, or my PS3 to it. Or I could buy a base Samsung BT player wirth Smart hub to be the STB, so there are easy options no matter what devices anyone has or doesn't have.

(And I've even learnt that I'm a total dork for buying a Panasonic TV).
MileHighKiwi: I'm happy to wait until Lightbox is available on the Roku 3. There's plenty of content to keep me busy on Netflix USA in the meantime. And if they never release on the Roku 3...oh well, I don't think I'm missing out.

No you're not :-)
You can pry my Panasonic Plasma from my cold dead hands. Smart TV capability is very easy to add via external devices (and usually with a far superior UX).

davidrg: I have:
All fairly common devices. The nexus is completely stock android managed by Google. Lightbox is available for none of these.
- A Sony Smart TV & bluray player (smart features are too slow to bother with)
- Xbox 360
- Xbox One
- Samsung Nexus 10 (Not Samsung enough for Lightbox, TV3 or anyone else it seems)
I canceled my Lightbox subscription on the day the android app was announced to be exclusive to Samsung devices. The only conclusion I could draw was that money had changed hands for exclusivity and so my hardware wouldn't be supported any time soon. I've considered buying a ChromeCast at times but of course this won't help me if I can't run the android app. I've no interest in replacing any of the Sony stuff with Samsung gear.
I really liked Lightbox and the content selection looks great. But its no use to me if I can't get it on to my TV. I'll be going with Netflix if nothing changes before they launch.

since I don't think you can even buy a Roku box in NZ (other than parallel import) there are probably no more than a few thousand of them in NZ, so barring some kind of special deal with Roku like NowTV did in the UK, it's fairly unlikely Lightbox (or any NZ streaming service) will be developing an app for it anytime soon.
And, since most people who have imported a Roku 3 are likely to have done so for the express purpose of getting Netflix US, t's pretty unlikely they will switch to Lightbox even if they do invest the time and money into launching an app (as the bolded part of your post proves)

I'd be very surprised if the xbox(s) and/or sony smart devices weren't next cab off the rank after chromecast.
(presumably with Chromecast, you don't need an android device. You could just use the chrome browser on your laptop and cast that, right?)
rugrat: It's a shame all TV's are not running the same OS for applications, so when written for one, will work for all.
