There's a Tivo at Cash Converters Henderson for $75 if you're still looking for one.

Wade: I'd like to thank Sky, this price increase is welcomed by me, since Netflix has been around I have been trying to convince the wife that we no longer need sky, I have been met by a fair bit of resistance, she likes her MTV and crime channels and I can't easily replace that via Netflix

But you probably could with NowTV - they have MTV, Discovery, a range of UK Sky Channels - for GPB6.99 per month, plus whatever it costs you for an unblocking service (which is minimal).

I got rid of Sky a month ago after realising I was paying about $75 per month to have Living Channel or Cartoon Network (for my son) on in the background. While I do miss the MySky box, which worked really well, the Panasonic PVR I replaced it with does the job. I'm getting everything I used to enjoy via a combo of Netflix, Hulu, BBC, Channel 4, and Freeview. I use my AppleTV and a little Minix Windows 8.1 box for most of my streaming, and the PS3 for a couple. I'm hoping the Apple TV upgrade coming later in the year will make it even more useful. The only thing I don't have access to yet is cricket, and I can always sub to Willow TV for $15 per month.

I'd be quite interested in trying that nameless sport package at $25 per month, if someone wanted to DM me the details!

Netflix has heaps of quality crime shows. My wife is right into them too and on Netflix she watches things like Stalked, Locked Up Abroad, Crimes of the Century, First 48 Hours etc...plenty of crime shows to keep her going :)

Sky TV customers up ...  (abridged)

"Sky Television says it is adding subscribers again, after losing customers each month between September last year and February.

"The net gain since February had been "reasonably strong" it said, peaking at more than 4000 net additions in April ...

"It said the churn it had experienced as it lost some customers who signed up to Sky for the 2011 Rugby World Cup now appeared to have "faded from the business"...

"Sky planned to "defer" any investment in any new set-top boxes - such as ones that could support the higher screen resolutions supported by new "4k" ultra-high definition televisions  - for "at least the next three years", it told analysts."

Maybe check the date on the article noting that it implies that the mySky upgrade is now a year behind schedule.

yes.  I was under the impression that they were going to roll out new STBs this year.  M-in-Law got her old one replaced  as it was freezing up all the time  replaced yesterday and they just put in another of the old ones.

Really? Roll out was supposed to start in March. They have an amazing opportunity here to put in an STB which aggregates all VOD sources. It could be damn amazing with such a large installed base.

Out of interest which STB did they install?

I really wonder if there is a lack of tech expertise at Sky. I have nothing to base this on except from a consumer looking at my MySky and figuring out when it is going back to Sky.

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I would love to know the numbers by customer segment and demographics. Sky is still super popular with older people, like my 68 year old uncle who thinks connecting his laptop to the tv to watch PLP is too difficult.

That article is dated 15 May 2013,
And it's not an erroneous date because the comments are years old also
