freitasm: Come on folks. I don't have Sky but I can see if there would be an event of interest and I wanted to put on the big screen at home I could - without having to go through the whole subscription thing.

It's a good thing (TM).

Indeed. I miss watching the All Blacks live, but not enough to pony up for Sky Sports. If I'm reading this correctly, I should be able to pay $15 and get access for a day. IOW, I can pay $15 per ABs match as desired. That sounds like an acceptable price to me.

Agree - as long as it is in HD and actually works.

bcourtney: This isn't really something that is going to sell on price, it's the convenience of not being locked in to an ongoing subscription. For those that don't have Sky at all but wouldn't mind watching the RWC without having to sign up to Sky for 12 months. I can see how some might find this appealing.

6 weeks at $20 a week = $120, or $80 a month.

Sky sport at $50 rip off base fee plus $25 for sport = $75 a month, plus $10 more if you want this in HD (cos it's 2015 and HD is new and all).  Plus more if you want a mysky box?  Is this still the case?

That puts it at about the same price, but limited to just one sport type? with the satellite service probably being more reliable.

Weird business model, and you've got to be earning good money to support that.

I'm confused if you quoted me by mistake or just didn't read what I wrote. This isn't about price in comparison to an ongoing Sky subscription, it's about the convenience of being able to subscribe for a one off event etc without being locked in to a 12 month Sky satellite subscription. If I ditch Sky Sport (as I've been contemplating) then something like this could definitely appeal if there's an event coming up that I know I'll have time to watch.

A smart TV or AppleTV App would top it off nicely...

Dead keen to see how well it works with AirPlay. May take it for a spin this weekend for the Bledisloe cup decider

I see it as a step in the right direction - offering sports content to those who dont want to subscribe to the full sky package. Sure the pricing does seem quite high right now, but I would definitely consider this as an option (once they get football rights and better pricing plans).

I would hope they have a plan for someone that wants to get the subs for the Rugby world cup (as a package deal instead of a week to week basis).

macuser: The cheapest option of them all is to find a grandparent/parent that has Sky and get their Sky Go details, and flick them $20 a month.

dan: might consider the Formula 1 half yearly pass, its quite reasonable at 99$

Anyone know if it has all the practice sessions qualifying preshow aftershow etc?

Assume its not in 50fps like Sky Sports F1 HD UK steams i usually watch?

I bit. Mainly so that I can watch replays in the morning. Stream quality is decent, 720p, but not 50fps. They have the two views - main feed and the augmented feed with track info etc. They have all practice sessions, qualifying, and preshow, but they haven't been showing the aftershow interviews etc which REALLY annoys me, so I've been finding those on YouTube.

Yeah I'm With you on the prcing. It's not that bad considering you don't have to commit to a years worth of service for your 1 month of sport at $20.

It's a step in the right direction certainly, but I still think they are smoking crack on the prices.

Should be more reliable than sky go if it is through their fan pass service which uses the neulion platform (nba, nhl, PLP).
Edit: interesting that it only mentions sky sport 1-4 and nothing about any pop up channels they have which they now have regularly.

$20 a week is a bit steep, but in line with what they charge overseas (from memory the NowTV option in the UK is GBP10.99 for a week). For me, as a non-Sky subscriber (as of earlier this year) it would fill the gap when events like world cups were on, without having to shell out for all the extra rubbish.

Edited to add: At least it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully we'll see improvements from here on in.

Yes I know a wee,. But with your subscription the same $20 gets you a month....but if you are a new subscriber you haven't factor in the up to 12 months worth of $50 a month to get that pricing.

So i don't think it's too far off....I would however think that fir sine thing like the Olympics that are 16ish days something better could be done. But hey.
