vexxxboy: got one installed today and still cant get the unit to connect with my Fritz box on WI fi but they also mention you need a Sky link to do it , no idea what that is. Talking to the installer he said that in Rotorua for the past 12 months he has had done hardly any installations and my job is the only one he has for Friday and Saturday.

Update. Just had the strangest conservation with a sky rep, i told him i couldnt get the Wifi working and he said the software was not ready yet and i couldnt do it hmmm ok , so what if i plug an ethernet cable in i asked , no that wouldnt work either i would have to wait for the software to update he told me even though i had already tried it and it worked fine. Not sure i want to call back  and still none the wiser.

If you've had the new box installed you don't need the SKY Link because wifi is built in - you only need the Link if you have MySky HDI or HDI+ - so if Sky are telling people otherwise then it seems their own staff know less about this then we do.

What I find most strange is that the new box still requires an update. I can see the need to send new software to boxes that have been out in the wild for some time already but why aren't they shipping the new boxes with everything already loaded?

Also, back on page 4 of this thread l had a moan about my frustrating experience trying unsuccessfully to get prepared for the update by ordering the SKY Link in advance, first online then over the phone. Now we're hearing about the updates rolling out I just tried again and was pleasantly surprised that it let me order one right there via the web page. I was even more surprised that it showed a cost of $0.00 throughout the order process, not the $17.25 I originally read was the "one-off lending fee". I will wait to see whether an actual fee gets added to my Sky bill this month...

[edited to fix some bad editing in the second paragraph]

It looks like SKY is being generous and offering these for you for Free, no lending on the Ethernet Cables.

Finally got WiFi working and as a bonus it's on the 5GHz frequency.

update. Ok, when i turn the 2.4 frequency back on the modem the sky box will switch back to that frequency . How do i get it to stay on the 5GHz frequency.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

wwesocks: I have it too and it is an extra $15 per month.

So the same $$$ as MySky HDi.... but with only two tuners!

4 tuners actually

Well 2 physical ones so your partly right and he rest are cpu based

Interesting... So do the 2 physical inputs have FBC (Full Band Capture) then?

Has anyone had issues with mysky plus not responding to the remote or any other button on the machine with the new update.

The only fix I've found is to power off at the wall and wait 5 minutes and everything starts working again.

tangerz: So do these new boxes have any record (MySky) functionality? If not then where does that leave those that have the original Silver MySky units which I see are also being replaced? Or will those units be replaced with a MySky HDi/+?

They do have the recording function but you still have to pay extra for that. Sky sort it at their end.

Had the update for a few weeks. Changing the volume on the remote now results in no change at all.

will be due to the audio format, have a play with that in the audio and subtitles menu.

Just killed my sky account, not even a hit of offering anything for me to stay.

I press the volume up or volume down and it doesn't change the actual volume of the content

mine only works on PCM/MPEG as the sky box sends the sound to the TV, which then sends the sound to the old home theater system via toslink, i think its got something to do with compressed vs uncompressed audio.

the same things happens with my freeview box, so its how the TV deals with the sound and it doesnt like dolby digital

its setup dependent so what works for one person wont necessarily work for someone else

Is anyone else apart from me still waiting for their turn?

Life is too short to remove USB safely.
