Fanpass email just sent out

 https://fanpass.co.nz/fans/bathurst

No special pack, guess but weekly pass so you can watch top 10 shootout then actual race all live...

Also unclear if you can use chromecast....

Maybe. This is from FAQ. Now the Popup isnt PPV, but it probably uses the same technical means, hence PC/Mac only. That also indicates Airplay wont work from a Mac

Please note that Pay‐Per‐View events are not available via the FAN PASS app and can only be viewed on Desktop (Mac/PC). You can still get it to your big screen TV via Chromecast or HDMI if your TV is compatible.

Watching P2 live now on Fan Pass. This is on Firefox on my PC. May be able to test Chromecast from a Chrome browser later tonight....

Looks like they aren't broadcasting all the "filler" shows on the pop up channel on Fan Pass (repeats of previous races etc), only the live programming.

Tested Chromecasting Fan Pass in Chrome to my Sony Android TV, no problems. Unfortunately the Bathurst Pop Up Channel was off the air by the time I got to test but would hope/expect the same functionality.

What's the fanpass quality like? previously I have used it and it's been between bad and decent... Never what I'd consider good...

Can you tell what bitrate and resolution they are using? If it's 720P or better at 4.5Mbps or better then I'd probably be happy.

V8 Supercars will sell you a stream of the whole V8 season for $40, but you need to be outside NZ and Aussie to use it. 2 years ago they sold just Bathurst for $15... Even bouncing that via the US to watch it was _perfect_... The whole race with no skips, buffers, glitches or blocking. I'd happily pay $20 for the weekend but I don't want to watch the rest of the season.

Does anyone know of any other high quality (paid) streams available for the weekend? I'm happy to "travel" to whatever country is required to view :-)

Cheers 0- N

Seems ok to me, will know for sure on the weekend when I crank out the projector :-)

According to their FAQ - "HD quality (720p) is available on PC/Mac and tablet where the stream is 5mbps and above".

I was testing with the "best" setting, and I saw that 720p is a quality setting on the browser interface. Tested on average ADSL and UFB (100) and seemed ok, stable and no buffering that I saw. My main concern is load on Sunday, I've seen comments around about Fan Pass not coping with All Blacks test matches, not sure if Bathurst would have the same viewer numbers on Fan Pass though.

This is my main concern. Sky have a catastrophic history of dealing with demand spikes with their online viewing options.

Cheers - N

I used Fan Pass for the ALl Blacks v SA game a couple of weeks ago (so Prime Time NZ) and quality was great. At one point I had to remind myself that it was streaming and not coming OTA. THe first time I used Fan Pass one of the Wales tests) it was a bit jerky, but this time it was much better. It did stop a couple of time (luckily both during breaks in play, so I restarted the stream).

From what I have watched, it varies. Ive seen some Olympics that were clearly 720p, other events its was noticeably less, and juddery, most annoying.

LPGA awesome. Cricket, anywhere from 9/10 compared to Sky box to 6/10 from what I saw of India game last week

To me its not the capability, that is definitely there, its what the stream is streamed at or what they may reduce in quality to cater for bandwidth. That may not

be the correct conclusion but I saw Olympic events that went also from 9/10 to 6/10.

Fibre 100 here, all by ethernet to ATV4 and the FP app

Doesn't seem to have the proper chromecast button on the popup channel..

You need to cast the tab... less than ideal...

So looks to be about a 55 second lag compared to the live lap timing.

anyone got any bright ideas on how to introduce a lag in the browser or video output so they are closer to in sync...

So i think I've figured it out

Use this

https://obsproject.com/

Setup ngnix as rtmp server

https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-set-up-your-own-private-rtmp-server-using-nginx.50/

Use VLC to access the stream

Can post config screenshots if needed

Ok this is getting on my nerves.

Aussies call it bathurst as in bath.

Kiwis call it bathurst as in beth.

And a news reader called fabian coulthard coal tard.

Are any of the races being shown on free-to-air anywhere (ie, Prime)?

I feel I need to commend Fox Sport Australia and Sky TV for the coverage provided this year, we used to have to intercept a satellite feed to be able to watch every item of the day and no ad breaks but now we can do it "legally" and in HD :)
