Not surprised that the MiBox is not supported (its a shame NZ companies neglect this device).  It does appear on a Smart Vu X.

Anywhoo.... for those MiBox owners, I side loaded it and it seems to work fine.

I don't want to start another discussion around the difference in frame-rate between Sky Sport Now and Sky Go as this has been flogged to death already in the early pages of this very thread.  But if there is someone who has experienced both services in the past and seen the difference in quality and who is now using the Android TV app, please can you let us know whether you've found the problem to be resolved with the native application?

If I can get "Sky Go quality" streaming via the Android TV app on my Sony TV, then I'll gladly re-subscribe to the service tongiht.

Update to my own post.  Two things.

1.) Despite being told by the live chat support that "as a returning customer" I can still sign up for the free trial and test the app, this proved to be incorrect.  I had to sign up again with a different Email to try it out as the system kept telling me that I had already trialled it (to be expected, really).

2.) The Android TV app is decent - pretty much what one would expect.  Easy to navigate and does what it says on the tin.  Unfortunately, the quality isn't great.  It's the same story as before; the frame-rate is just not good enough for most live sport and it is obviously to do with the streaming platform that SSN is using.  Switching between Sky Go (Chromecast) and SSN shows a glaring difference in quality.  I tried to watch some golf and the SSN picture was visibly interlaced during movement, as well as juddery in comparison to the buttery-smooth Sky Go stream.

Honestly, for a lot of people who aren't coming from watching Sky via traditional satellite or the Sky Go app even, the quality is probably more than sufficient and they will enjoy this service, blissfully unaware that it can (and should) be better.  I'm really disappointed by this, if I'm honest.  I want this service - I think it can be a GOOD service, but I can't help feeling cheated.  Across the ditch, they have Kayo Sports which I have also tried in the past (with a VPN and a friend's account).  That too was buttery-smooth in comparison.  The fact that Sky's own Sky Go app has the exact same content as SSN in far higher quality really stings.   I know we've got a SSN representative on here, and I am sure that he is already aware of this issue given the number of posts about it but I really hope that this problem is high up on their priority list.  However, if it is indeed an issue with the streaming provider that the whole SSN system is built upon, then I'm guessing this is not a small "fix" and we might just be stuck with it as-is. :(

Sky Go isnt the same content, it has a lot of extra channels. I know what you meant though. I would have made SSN using the SkyGo app. That solves the quiality problem, the logon just needs to disallow access to the other channels, and its useful for subscribers to see what else is on SkyGo, as some will say thats cool and sub to Sky instead. Seems a win win and one less app to manage

If you sub to Sky for the cheapest setup with sport (No MySky) does that give you access to Sky Go?  IIRC the base setup is $25 add sport you get about $50, about the same as SSN

You're in for $25 (base) + $31 (for sport) with Sky.  Not sure if you're tied into a 1-year contract.  This will get you the Sky Go app.

SSN has 24-hour rewind and more highlight packages which is a valuable feature to some (myself included) and not available on Sky.  Also, I am not interested in any of the other channels available with the "base" package, so for me personally, SSN @ $39.99 would be the more appealing option if the quality acceptable.

What put me off SSN was the 24 hour rewind was only on a browser, no replays. And off course the quality. So I kept Sky

Oh crap!  I didn't even think to test that!  Is the rewind not available on the Android TV app?  I'll check tonight, but it was definitely available on the Android app when I used to cast to Chromecast.

Maybe its changed but back then it was just on the browser and I WONT watch stuff on a laptop! :-) I use an ATV4. For me it was about replays, if I cant record I want the replay that plays later on Sky but SSN seemed to be just highlights

Yeah the 24-hour rewind is a fantastic feature, especially living in NZ.  Most of the sport I watch is in Europe / Africa and takes place during awful times for me.  This way, I still get to wake up and watch the MotoGP or the Rugby "live".

Can confirm the rewind is available in the Android app - will check the Android TV app tonight.

I used it on Sunday to start the rugby once I got home from footy using the android tv app.

I only noticed it that day.

The app needs a better popup guide when watching live tv.

Rewind works fine on Apple TV. I also don’t have an issue with the quality on Apple TV set to 50Hz. Although I also have a sony oled tv so that might be helping.

Hi all,

A couple of quick answers:

The Sky Sport Now App is available on the following Sony Bravia TVs:

  •

    • BRAVIA 4K 2015
    • BRAVIA 4K GB
    • BRAVIA 2K GB ATV3
    • BRAVIA 4K GB ATV3
    • BRAVIA 4K UR1
    • BRAVIA 4K UR2
    • BRAVIA 4K UR3
    • BRAVIA VH1
    • BRAVIA VU1

We have also added a range Android TV powered devices as some of you have noted and will continue to support more once we have run them through testing. The Freeview Smart Vu+ and select TCL TVs are recent additions as well as Nvidia Shield.

The 24 Hour Catch-up feature is now available across all Sky Sport Now devices/Apps by scrolling backwards in the TV Guide.

We agree that we need to sign-post the Catch-up feature a bit better - and will do so now that it is universally available.

Regards Alex

Sky Sport Now

I was quietly happy to find the SSN app on the ShieldTV last week.
Gave it a good run over the weekend with the V8’s, Netball and the Warriors game.
On par with the ATV version.
