I only stayed with Spark Mobile for Lightbox and Spotify. Now I will cancel Spotify, forget Lightbox/Neon and look for a better mobile plan. There is better value out there than a Spark currently offers.

Weirdly the features and devices page doesn't mention Android TV, only the Smart Vu X boxes and Sony Tvs between 2014-2016... does this mean my current Sony X95G with Android TV is no longer supported despite it being supported by Lightbox presently?

Was wondering that myself. There is a Neon app for the Smart Vu series at present, but sideloading it into an Xiaomi MiBox doesn't work, whereas there is a working Lightbox app.

I've got a question in with Lightbox asking this and pointing to their device page (as posted above) asking about Android TV and Sony Tvs post 2016 in particular.  If they're removing access for Sony Tvs and Android TV in general then that's a dumb decision and I'll be cancelling as chromecasting sucks from a phone in my opinion.

It was Spotify that held me with Spark, but given they have the most expensive share option out of the big 3 plus spotify you have to pay a little extra for I am tempted to look around.

I've been hoping they would match Vodafone's deal of half price additional unlimited plans but not seen a peep out of them.

i pay for Tidal so happy to drop Spotify. In any case even paying for Spotify I can still do better with Vodafone and get unlimited and hotspotting.

Then again, Lightbox's current support page for android devices shows that they don't support Android TV boxes, yet it is readily available on the Play Store on my 2019 Shield. Seems to be almost a copy-paste of the current Lightbox device support page as well

Hopefully using the Lightbox platform, it will be the same for the new Neon.

Maybe so but the main issue here is that they specifically say Dish TV and Sony from 2014-2016; no mention of Sony's Android TVs which are newer than 2016... and if its dish only, it will most likely be locked to that unit...

I edited my comment just as you replied, but it seems to be the same story as the current Lightbox support page, so hopefully it is just a case of out of date documentation.

I got the email from Spark about this. Does anyone know if we cancel lightbox today, if we can continue to use it until the 26th July, and then it will be canceled? It should specify this in the email they sent.

Most likely... Lightbox have confirmed that the Sony Android TV set will be  supported; I suspect anything that is currently sideloaded won't be included... just hope they don't block the sideload ability like DishTV did for the Freeview app.

not sure why you would want/have to do this.

per their email, unless you use 'new neon' for 3 hours or more from 7 july, you won't automatically get subscribed to, and charged, 'new neon' subscription. basically, you automatically cancel.

in fact, as someone mentioned previously, you can even use 'new neon' from 7 to 26 july, but let them know on the 26th that you don't want to subscribe (obviously, you stop using it from then).

This is because I want the ability to use it up to the last day, but don't want to forget or miss any reminder that I need to cancel it on or by a particular day. So if I just send a cancel request now, then I would expect it will remain active until I am guessing the 28th? , and I then won't need to worry about it later on. So then I don't have to cancel it on  exactly  the 26th July. That tends to be  the way that other online service companies tend to do it, after cancelling they say they keep it active until the final day you are entitled to use the service for, and then cancel it.

I see a lot of people complaining on social media about the 3 hour implied consent thing. If someone doesn't get the email about the changes for some reason, eg it goes into spam, then people may continue to use it and not know about the changes, and then find they are being billed for it. I would have thought that a simple, agree button connected to the new terms when they use the service could be used instead. I have never seen it done this way before.

I've yet to receive any kind of communication except for this thread on Lightbox switching over to Neon and this automatic subscription thing is another spanner in the works to me - why don't they just make it a clean cut and close lightbox off and if you want neon sign up for neon

Edit: I have been using lightbox occasionally and there's nothing in spam folders

both the same for me in regards to spark/lightbox - just did a keyword search for lightbox in outlook and the last e-mail containing the term is an automated one about my new cellphone on 20/5 saying it's included with it. I get e-mails on my phone and my laptop and a copy gets downloaded to a G Suite account folder for backup, so I've not received anything for some reason

i see what you mean. i would have preferred an opt-in, myself... but i'm generally ok with how it is.

however, it's not quite the same thing with cancelling, say netflix. with netflix, you pay a month in advance. so if you cancel now, you get the service through to the end of your month (billing date/cycle). if your billing date is this saturday, your service stops then - not a full month after you give notice.

with this neon thing, you wouldn't have paid for the service from 7 july... so they're really not obliged to supply the service for a month after you notify them - you haven't really got a billing date (for neon) until spark, if you were getting lightbox with unplan entertainment, adds it to your subscription.
