I am seeing more positive things about Sky in the past 12 months than I have done in a long time.

I would be interested to know some examples. That is a genuine question.

Purchase of Rugby Pass, Improvements to their SVOD Platforms, flexible plans, feedback requests, improved customer communications, the announcement of a potential new Set top box..

Their customer service has improved in my opinion, along with things like Free Movies to Sports subscribers etc through COVID-shutdowns. They didn't need to do that and likely wouldn't have in the old days.

Feedback requests and improved customer communications are a step in the right direction. I remember looking for some way to provide reader feedback to the Sky magazine and finding nothing. The one-way communication was quite different from my experience in Europe.

I would be interested to know more about the flexible plans. How are they different?

Probably just as easy for you to go to their website.

Yeah, I took a look. It doesn't seem much different from what we had. I was interested in viewer experiences.

Well, I know you don't like ad's and that hasn't changed. I don't have issues with what some people have issues with, I find the epg serviceable, would like something a bit quicker but it's fine.

Food TV, and Sport, my two go-to channels, Sport is different (COVID) and they are finally getting some new content on Food TV. If they moved to HD, I'd be near orgasmic. A few less baking shows and a bit more BBQ would be my preferred mix. I like Mary Berry but 1290 hours of her on Saturday PM is pushing me a bit far. They have some good sports shows and news stuff, a bit of innovation..

An App would be awesome, for my Firetv/Android tv

I like Sky because things are curated. Channels may not contain exactly what I want, but I can easily find content for food, or sport, or UK only stuff.

If I could get the arts channel and rialto without the rest I would be interested. I am not into sports and food so can't say much about those. Everything else I can get elsewhere so no added value for me there. I like to follow developments in case something that interests me comes along, but at this time Sky is not a value proposition for me. Who knows what the future may bring?

Realistically, Sky will almost certainly never meet your requirements/expectations.

It's good you have other sources of the content you want though.

They say content is king. For me, there is plenty on Sky, they seem to have added a few more channels over time. 5 is quite good, Ive been watching Sinkholes. There is a LOT of stuff on Sky I have no interest in, but I can say the same for the others I have, Amazon Prime, Lightbox/Neon, Netflix, Curiositystream, its the same everywhere. One box for Sky and FTA, recording, Sky Go.

Just get Arts only? No that wont happen. I could ask Netflix to only give me one genre and I pay $2 a month just for that, but also no. I like sport, news, doco's and of the other misc channels, little gems pop up in a variety of interests. My box is 65% full of stuff for me when I want it.

What I find with SVOD, is there is a LOT of fluff, a LOT.

I am no longer a Sky hater. I used to be, and I think they deserved it. But I am happy to give them points for trying. The issue for me now is just whether they offer me value for money, and so far, they still don't. There are a few things they have that interest me, but most of the content I want I can get elsewhere and I can't even begin to get through everything I would want to watch, so why add even more? I am content with what I have but I like to check them out from time to time to see what is new.

Value for money is subjective, I guess.

I probably don't get value for money on a pure "what you watch for what you pay" basis, but as has already been said, the curation, content and ability to timeshift it all works for me.

Sport (to a degree), Sky Go, Discovery and it's off-shoots as well as the simplicity of a set-top box with storage (all in one place) works.

I'm used to the user interface, so that helps.

Sure there's things I don't like, but I still keep on paying for it every month, so it can't irk me that much.

A brick is a better value proposition than the Vodafone TV. After last nights cluster beep with it I am definitely a starter for this.

this seems like a step in the right direction, but as they say, the devil is in the detail.  Their current box and setup do feel very dated.  They don't want to put what they've taken away in their new marketing spin.

I note there's no mention for any 'Ultra HD'/4K sporting content, I'd be interested to see if that's on Sky's radar.  From what i've seen though, outside of Europe 4K Sport content is quite limited and isn't really shared much between providers yet.  I have TSN and Sportsnet in 4K and (pre-pandemic) I'd only get true 4K sports content from Canada, nothing from Europe at all.   I guess OSB would need to update their equipment, plus any relevant backhaul.

Maybe that's why Sky sold the OSB company .  Didn't want to have to pay  for the upgrade to 4K..

What have Sky taken away they said they would offer? 4K Sport is an incredibly niche product.  <5% of Sky subscribers would have a setup and desire to make use of it. That's not exactly a good return on what would almost certainly be a massive investment.
