For the last two evenings when I have switched my New Box on, it appeared to be booting up rather than coming up from standby, then said it had a DVB fault and do I want it to reboot. Agreed to it, and it booted up properly, but then said that it hadn't recorded the 6pm news. I then did a full reboot from the menu - and there's the recording. Hopefully tonight it won't be so nuts.

Sky should allow option of the Sky app on their Skybox (AndroidTV) to function via internet streaming as well.
This would be helpful during the intense periods of rain we are currently experiencing and could provide an alternate option to their Optus D2 woes..

they kind of do, if you use the start from beggining/live replay option, it plays via internet

I have 2 Mysky HDi boxes which i paid for upfront many years ago. I have held off upgrading to the new boxes given all the issues i have read about here, but thought perhaps I would upgrade one now and see if i was happy with it before doing both. The Sky CSR tells me if i do I will have to start paying the monthly $15 recording fee for the new box upgrade. Is this correct? If so why would i upgrade just to pay Sky another possible $30 per month for two new boxes?

Has anyone had any experience with this?

No, but this sounds EXACTLY like Sky. It’s even worse now they are trying to force people on to the functionally substandard new boxes.

i had a similar issue a few years back when my Sky + box stopped recording. They replaced it of course (I too had paid upfront), but when I asked if I could keep the (broken) box long enough to watch the already recorded content, they said I could but for $25 a month.

i declined.

I personally thought the $15 cost is for Mysky (the ability to record programs and remote record etc) so if you currently can record shows and series link then you must have that cost built into the upfront cost you paid for the box outright?

How old are the boxes?, I have a friend with an older HDi box and it was so slow and laggy it was almost unuseable.

I don't know (because I run Sky Pods, not boxes), but if your account includes My Sky and Multiroom subscriptions, and both your boxes link to that account, then maybe you can record on both boxes? In which case the extra cost would be $15 rather than $30. Maybe?

Both boxes are a fair few years old, one is actually a HDi + with 1TB hard disk, both operating fine. I’m not going to swap them out for new ones if it’s going to cost another $30 a month, that was the reason I paid the upfront fee when I first got them.  I was originally under the impression I could swap them for the new boxes for same subscription given there are few benefits in switching (no 4k etc) at the moment. I use Apple TVs for all other streaming content and that wouldn’t change even if i had the new boxes.

That wasn't my experience when upgrading. The recording functionality was carried over for no extra charge for me.

I had the same issue with them wanting to charge for recording. It was the final straw and I sent the new decoder back for a refund and they reactivated my old HDi box.

I got an email from SKY TV today to tell me that I won't be able to access "On Demand" after February 25th on my old Sky Box. However, the new box will have "On Demand" available and I can "upgrade?" for free.

I don't want the new Sky Box and I hardly ever watch anything on demand, but I am seriously thinking of cancelling my subscription after February 25th and getting the Sky Sports Now app.

How good is the app? I have fibre, so it shouldn't have any buffering problems.

You're better off with the sky sport now app, considering your situation. I'd say do it.

Sky broadcast 4 linear channels as their "on demand" ppv movies, a waste of transponder space. An obsolete way of doing things. I'm not surprised that they are dropping it. It makes much more sense for them to offer it as true VOD content via their new White box.

But it probably boils down to saving transponder bandwidth in preperation for their satelilte swap!

In the email, they refer to my “black Sky box”. Both my Pace MySky box and Kaon box are black, so which one are they referring to?

If it’s the Kaon, then I never use it for on demand anyway. I do use it when we go to the family bach though, which has no internet. Will the flash new box they are offering for free work without an internet connection? Not for On Demand, but even to just get it working?

I wish Sky would just be honest, rather than make out they are doing me a favour.

Got the email as well, sounds like just a push to get people onto the newer tech. I don't use on demand much but do use it from time to time so to have it removed is a PITA.

Only really 4K over sat will get me into that new box, I'll just have to record more rather than access on demand.
