Do they still plan to charge $200 to switch to this new box? I have 3 here so thats $600? Which seems mental given our new TV's do everything the box can apart from sat.

I think it's good they combined the Streaming and satellite into a single box, that's convenient and takes up less space. White is awful though. I can imagine it being frustrating finding media on a box that does so much and that it's not particularly customizable.

I don't feel compelled to switch, my MySky is convenient and I have a shield TV, and whilst that is two boxes, the Shield does stuff for me that the New Sky Box won't do, and I won't be paying $200 for it at this stage. I'll wait for them to work through the issues with the early adopters and then assess.

I am seriously thinking about cancelling my Sky Subscription, but if I can get the new box for $200, I might think about keeping it going, then I could use Plex on it and Spotify, possible many other Android apps.

But I heard through the grapevine purchasing the box for $200 will cost an additional $15 per month on top of my current subscription.

Hopefully the box will support H265 HEVC codec for the Plex content

I am getting the Pod as the significant other wants Sky stuff but we do not want a dish on the house. In fact as I have previously stated I removed a dish and all the dish cabling from the house we had purchased as VTV met all our needs.

Adaption will be necessary to the lack of recording but recording is not so significant that it warrants a dish.

My chat with Sky before -

-- Question about the new Sky box - I understand when released this will be $200. Is this correct?
That's correct
Sky

-- I have 3 so do I have to pay $600? This is on multiroom
Let me look into this for you
Sky

-- Thanks

The $200 will apply for all new Sky boxes. You do have the option to keep your current Sky boxes and have one new Sky box which will only be $200
Sky

-- Ok - so to confirm to replace 3 is $600?
That's correct

Sky should really supply the box for free since we pay a $50+ monthly subscription, just my thoughts

The most I've ever done is 3. 2 would meet my needs 99.9% of the time. 1 would meet my needs 95% of the time.

I stopped recording years ago, ever since the series link option became poor, many episodes stopped becoming series linked and a please explain from Sky was it is a manual operation and if something you wanted to series link was not available give us a call and we would look at it, gave up after a couple of weeks.

That was a great feature of theirs

It would be nice, but I can understand why they're not giving them away for free.

With more than half a million box subscribers, the total cost would likely be more than one entire year's worth of profit for them. Pay TV in New Zealand just isn't profitable enough for any company to be able to do that here.

When signing up for Sky at the moment do you need to pay for the current box?

No its free, and its still free going forward. Only the new box is $200

I have an apple tv so there is zero benefit in me having the new box when the free one does everything I need of it.
