Hi all, (first post, been lurking for years, great resource, finally decided to join, be gentle on me…)

Skybox just did an update!

Ive had my new skybox for about a week now, it’s growing on me but still about 50/50 for returning it for the old one. I was hanging out for the new one because I was frustrated with the speed of the old one (since they did that major firmware update years ago) and also the remote was worn out. Sent the old unit back yesterday thinking they’d send me a new one if ever I should decide to opt out. Funny the return form didn’t say to include the remote. Power cord and HDMI cable -yes, remote no.

Ive had similar experiences to a lot of you: outage the other night, restarted the box, sky support phones busy, 99+ in the support chat that never happened, woefully lack of notification. I actually thought I’d broken it because I’d just added it to my Home Assistant at that exact moment and was starting to panic. Why can’t they have an outage web page like most of our of our telcos do? Downdetector was my friend that night.

Disappointed in the box itself, trying to find plusses vs minuses. Picture is good, but only after I recalibrated the TV picture because it reset the HDR+ or something and the colours all bloomed out (it’s a fairly new big Samsung). I don’t need any of the apps as I already have them natively on the TV. I wanted fast responsive sky satellite viewing, and not sure I got that. Would be good if I could remote record and if I could listen to the HD music channels that I’m paying for. But the remote is better (love the bluetooth vs IR) -although I haven’t figured out how to actually stop/reset the pause/rewind, as there isn’t a stop button anymore and the light on the front of the box don’t tell me anything. The tiny white box does stand out amongst my other black home theatre stuff in the black TV cabinet, and I know it’s there because all the HD drive constantly clatters away.

Anyway, it just did an update! It showed as a notification and I had to activate it, was fairly quick, rebooted and over within a few minutes. But I can’t see any difference to anything. Anyone else notice it? I’d love to look up the changelog, is there one?

It runs a update automatically on first install of the Sky Box

Yup had that update on first install. Wondered if there was another - previous post seemed to apply another update was available.

Yes, Ive had mine about a week and it did an update on install, but this one appears to be newish, might have been delayed or something? I’m sorry, can’t seem to find the where the update info/version is shown.

Ok, yeah, that was obvious, must have gone straight past it. So mine is same version as clayton mentioned. False alarm, my update must have been stuck somewhere. I’m sure it wasn’t there in previous days.

Just realised - there is an update for the Sky app as opposed entire OS.
I rebooted and the update message appeared up. You have to go into alerts/notifications - too right next to the profile now and it was in there to update the Sky app.

The app controls the core UX.

Well after reading that press release it is hard to reconcile the final product with the content ( apart from Infrared and Bluetooth)

I'm having an odd one with the new Sky box. When watching a programme via the TVNZ+ app - maybe one in five programmes go to black with sound after an ad break. I have to rewind then fast forward again to past the ad break and miss the first few seconds of the segment. If I just rewind and allow it to play through the ad break again - it goes to black and sound again.

We've found that bug. What we do is rewind behind the ad, let it play through about 3 times and it gets normal again.
