Speaking of this on a Sky thread.. for sky box subs It grates me that you used to be able to press the yellow button to access alternate commentary (Fox v Chan 9 for league) and Aus/Eng/Irish commentary vs NZ commentary for overseas rugby games but I've never found it to work anymore. Guess its too costly for Sky

When I used to watch rugby (a lot) I did it with the sound off. I dislike rugby commentators and I have a particular dislike for Justin Marshall.

Even worse when he was running around on the field in a black jersey!

I don’t watch the game buildups if Sonny Bill Williams is on. They seem to use him a lot now a days.

JPNZ: FWIW I’ve found the full replays and highlights of the woman’s World Cup to be up within hours on SkyGo

Find the same with EPL. I never miss a game for my team but rarely watch live - preferring to watch as live when I get up rather than in the night. I've gone from Vodafone TV to the Sky Pod so I'm used to going back and watching via the guide rather than recording, but I generally find when I get up at say 9am on a Sunday morning, the game played at 3am will be available on demand. Would be very surprised if Rugby World Cup games took 2+ days to be available. I think Sky Go with a Chromecast would be your best bet to watch games delayed in the other room. Probably won't be available immediately as the game ends but given it's in France I'd expect they would be by the time you're ready to watch in the morning.

It beats me why they bother doing this. If they want to increase their value proposition then a simple change would be to remove the encryption, and advertise the recorder as a DLNA server to the network. Then you could just watch recordings in another room. The cost to them would be near zero - other, I guess, than making their add-on multiroom package less attractive to some subscribers.

I don't know what they think they are achieving with the encryption. If they are looking to somehow prevent "piracy" (and what is the value of a rugby match recording days later anyway?) then the encryption doesn't do much. It's already trivially cheap and easy to transfer the content off the box in SD (over analogue outputs, and bypassing the CGMS/A they apply) or in HD (over the HDMI output, bypassing the HDCP they apply). A simple google search will tell anyone who wants to do this how to do it. So aside from irritating paying customers, I doubt the encryption achieves much.

I often scroll through the Guide on SkySportNow and watch something I've missed on-demand. Also, there's no problem starting anything from the start rather than from 'live' coverage.

The only gripe I have is, when watching something delayed, there's a Live button that I sometimes accidentally press and then see the score of the game which can spoil things.

when the live coverage ends and im still mid way through watching the game does the stream end completely or can i still watch it from where im upto delayed?

A couple of things I need to commend on based on experience.

I was watching the netball the other night on my work laptop and paused the stream mid-game. I didn't get back to resuming the game until after the stream had finished and I was able to resume watching the stream.
If scrolling through the TV Guide and watching something on-demand, the stream will always start from the beginning.
You can scroll back over the last 24 hours and watch anything on-demand from within the TV Guide.
I normally watch F1 after it has aired. There's an option to browse the sports categories. If I replay one of those events/games/races and then exit mid-way through, I do have the option to resume from where it left off.
The whole of the FIFA Woman's World Cup tournament can be replayed, but I'm not sure how long those games will be available for after the tournament has finished.

We modulate Sky round the house to 3 TVs it is rare that 2 people want to watch Sky at the same time as all three TVs have streaming & Freeview.

There is the odd occasion where wifey wants to watch UKTV and I have an NRL game on but it is not often enough to constitute $25 per month for multiroom.

It achieves Sky being allowed to broadcast the content in the first place. Without these controls in place they would not be allowed to acquire the broadcast rights.

Sky do plenty of things wrong - but it's not all their direct fault.

Because with the demise of Spark Sport they once again have a monopoly and can do whatever the heck they want. They don't have to try and pretend to be competitive or fairly priced or offering a good service any more. They'll keep doing it too until enough people just stop paying them and they go bust (and that cannot come soon enough)

That view doesn't mesh with reality. Spark Sport never provided Sky with competition, it was a beta product for the entirety of it's existence and Sky was probably worried initially and then saw the hash they made of the RWC and knew it was never going to be a serious threat.

The presence of Spark Sport never caused any price drops, innovation etc. This is just the fact they don't generally care about what they consider my use case to be, a fringe use case. I, on the other hand, consider this use case to be so unacceptable to not have in 2023 with the technology base that they have had, and content they have access to, that it's led me to look for other (legal) solutions, which if they meet my needs, will mean I unsubscribe. I don't think existing services are bad, but to have not evolved over this time to provide this functionality is unacceptable to me.

I am sure the Skybox will allow casting of recordings over the local LAN but pretty sure they are compelled by content providers to make sure its disabled.
