Ah crap. Oh well, I guess it's just a case of her finding a retailer with a new box in stock now.

We rarely use the onboard Freeview but have been using regularly for the disconnections during the last month but ours is via an antenna and, of course, nothing has changed.

Is this any good? It looks like it only does streaming though (which isn't suitable for her setup).

Location? is this one box hooked up or using a splitter?

Hamilton and no splitter.

We lost connection yesterday afternoon but when we got home at 23.30  (after a great Reb Fountain gig), reception was back. Took this photo this morning.

Can't upload photo but:- Tuner1, 2 & 3  - 169/3  68 dBuV...Signal Quality 11.3 dB

Tuner 4  0/0   Signal strenth - 70dBuv    signal quakity 11.8dB

Seemingly all running ok??

This thread relates to changes with a satellite, which is irrelevant to your issue if you use a terrestrial antenna. Please start a different thread for your issue.

fishb8 is using Satellite/Sky, as per their previous posts.

I guess they are trying to say that they fall back to the TV's built in terrestrial Freeview when the satellite connection stops working.

Shoutout to @Rentakill for an updated picon list over at Austech. Saved me a lot of time trying to figure out how to do it myself.

Hi there.

No prob with the Picons.

I usually do a bit of an update every 6 months or so.

Was going to post them here but ran out of time.

Feel free to distribute the package.

Cheers:

RunningMan:

Mavarick:

Success,

I managed to get there via using the scan function via the Signal finder function and the 4 sets of transponder numbers posted earlier,  I couldn't get it to work any other way.

Just transfered the channels to a new bouquet after each scan.

You shouldn't need to move any channels after a scan as all the services retain the same IDs in the background. A rescan of the 3 new transponders (for Freeview) should be enough and your existing bouquets should work.

Success for me too! I've now got everything working on my vu+solo2 box now that I have the right LNB/decoder configuration back, and a more accurate and stable version of  satellites.xml file (sourced from World-of-satellite support forum),which has been cut right back to just the entries needed on Koreasat at the new 160E position (which perhaps gets rid of old/conflicting transponder references that confused things in the transition process from old to new??)

https://world-of-satellite.com/threads/sky-nz-moves-satellite.67090/

and

https://github.com/oe-alliance/oe-alliance-tuxbox-common/commit/d1755a72b8d08ca978483d31a474876e26317918 ).

One exception, I found that the listed fec entry (=7, or 3/5) for transponder 12485000 didn't always work for me, so I changed the fec_inner from =7 to =8 (4/5) by using Signal Finder configured with the right freq, symbol rate, modulation, and it now seems to work more reliably.

 <transponder frequency="12485000" symbol_rate="22500000" polarization="0" fec_inner="8" system="1" modulation="1" />

(Observation: Not sure why, but several of the transponder entries in the file seem to work with multiple values of fec (eg 3/5, 6/7 and 7/8 all work on 12370000) when you do a manual scan or use signal finder, just not as quickly for all entries)

Anyway, thanks to all those who helped get things back in the process. Has been a very learning experience!

Buckchoi:

quickymart:

I can't comment on the Ashburton thing as it's second-hand information but I agree with you - I know the Christchurch FM stations used to be received loud and clear in Ashburton.

Anyway, she sent me a pic of her current decoder, looks like it's a Freeview Dish TV S7070R box.

If she does end up needing to replace it, will she need to do this again in 2 years when the satellite changes again? What a pain.

Edit: one of these: https://shop.cashconverters.co.nz/Listing/Details/44976780/TVVCR

Yes that box will need to be replaced, see my post in the thread that Spyware linked to for a suitable replacement.

Ended up ordering her one of these, she's going to pick it up next week:

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/dishtv-sat1-freeview-satellite-receiver/N216686.html

As an aside, do any new Samsung TV's come with both terrestrial and satellite Freeview decoders built-in? If she needs to update/replace her TV in the future I can point her in the direction of one of these 🙂
