why is the SKY Preview channel encrypted?
i've often wondered this.  The preview channel is there to advertise SKY and encourage people to upgrade their subscriptions, but PPV movies and events etc..... why not make it 'free to view' so that everyone with non-sky dvb-s boxes sees it too?

not that i'd actually watch it..... lol

We had a friend come round last night who installs Sky, he plugged in a box to our dish to test the LNB etc and found that all channels except Tv1 and 2 were encrypted...... he thought all the FTA ones would be available, but nope.

Sky pay for the transponder space to rebroadcast Mediaworks and Prime, so are perfectly entitled to encrypt it I guess. Don't know why they don't encrypt TVNZ rebroadcasts, maybe it was in the contract.

Believe me - there is nothing on the preview channel worth watching. Unless of course you like watching ads 7 x 24, then of course you will find it quite interesting.

I hate to say it, but I'd rather watch SBS...
