A relatively "new" SKY TV innovation is to float a small advertisement box on the top left of the screen for about 10 seconds while a tennis game is actually in progress. The advertisement for Bunnings Warehouse is repeated quite often and can even block out part of the tennis action if the ball happens to be in the same spot as the advertisement. I hope such advertising doesn't become commonplace on SKY, what do you think?

Of course, Sky is always doing this for its own advertisements, such as for mobile TV and MySky HDi. I also find these ads a bit offputting during live action as well. And why say that the tennis is available in HD on MySkyHDi when it's not actually marked as being in HD in the official Skywatch magazine?

The adverts in the bottom corners are fairly new to NZ TV. But if you watch any show in the states, for example, they always have banners that pop up during pre-recorded and live shows advertising products (sponsors) and upcoming shows.
It is just something you will have to get use to.

So you pay Sky a subscription, they then throw in ad breaks and now throwing in ads in during the show as well!?

Sky was ad free about 10 years ago. The ads are slowly creeping in. Soon there will be a channel where you can watch ads, and sky gets to announce they are releasing a new channel.

I'm not saying Sky should increase the subscription fee simply not try and make more and more profit. If you have to reach increased profit levels, don't just sell more advertising space, create a product more people want and are willing to pay for.

If the banners or pop-ups are ruining your viewing then you need to use your consumer power and complain to the company being advertised. If the Bunnings ad is the culprit then contact their headquarters and tell them you will not use their store because their ad caused you distress! In a commercial (no pun intended) world that is your only power. But if enough people do it, it may have an effect.
