nitrotech: I agree sky treat their exsisting customers poorly, they should offer existing customers deals that are at least as good as the best deals out there.

I have had battles with Sky over mysky, they wanted to charge me $99 for installation however there are other deals in the market place for $49 installation - on each occasion I have called them they said there was nothing they could do even though i've been a subscriber for over 10 years.

Anyway as described above Harvey Norman have a deal for free mysky installation, you don't have to buy anything just go instore and sign up, I did it yesterday.

Cazy isn't it though if i'd rung sky direct they would still want $99!

Sky don't seem very consistent. We were rung with some story that there would be installers in the area and an upgrade to MySky would be free install if we had it done the following week.

Cancel Sky, get your mate to do the same

If you decide you want it back, wait for a promotion, get free installation and the bonus for recommending someone.

A monopoly to be more precise. Agree with OP, they treat existing customers like cr@p.  They charged installation when asked for decoder that support component outputs.  they charged for HD content that you have paid for. they charge for watching the same content in a different room and at the same time.  I wonder if these exists if there is competition?

I know this quote is going way back in the thread.  I don't have a problem with Sky charging for a technician's visit for a non-failure related issue (i.e decoder change at your request) however I recently had problems with Wi-Fi interfering with my steam-driven Pace DSR-600 Sky decoder.
I contacted Sky for a replacement decoder (GZ thread helped indentify the problem) and even gave the model required that wouldn't suffer the interference.  Despite providing all the information the CSR still couldn't tell me if there would be a service charge! (But probably would).
I then offered to take the decoder into the Sky office near my work for a swap.  Nah can't do that.... Why not?...... Because you might not install the new one properly.....But surely that is my risk and I will then need pay for a technician to visit..... Nah still can't do it.

Note to Sky:  Not all of us are technologically incompetant muppets!

Assuming someone from Sky reads Geekzone, which is not proven yet. I have never been contacted by Sky regarding any matter or questions posted here.

OK, well, given his/her responses to threads about Sky, I would guess so.

if you want to get to Sky, their e-mail and twitter are generally answered by people who know what they're talking about.

time for a vent.....

Just got off a phone with a battle with Sky... a few weeks ago I rang up to get a techy around to look at my mysky box as it was having resetting issues.  I asked what the price of getting the box upgraded to an hdi box (would be the 2nd one in the house - have multiroom) and was told $49.  Then guy went to check as had already taken up the $49 offer to get the upgrade when hdi first came out,. came back and said $99.  I specifically asked him whether there would be any ongoing charges like rental or hd ticket costs as that would sway the decision whether to upgrade or not - was told not ongoing costs.

Anywho - got the second hdi decoder installed.  $99 - not a bad deal!!

Get the bill with odd amounts (increased a bit) and ring up to query what the costs are.  Am told there is a $15 monthly charge for the hdi box.  I complain as there calls are recorded and I specifically asked the rep this question.  Lady says she will lodge the complaint and get a manager to call back within 24 hours.

10 minutes later the original rep I spoke to rang up - said his notes say that he advised me of the $15 monthly charge and he can't remember the conversation with me - but apologies for the confusion - THERE WAS  NO CONFUSION MATE - LISTEN TO YOUR RECORDED CONVERSATION WITH ME!!!!!

Went around the around in circles with this clown - he asked if I wanted to go back to how things were with my digital decoder - hell no.. i want either the hdi box with no monthly charge as you said when I rang up.. or worst case - get me my old mysky decoder back.  Didn't grasp this and ended up speaking with his team leader.  At least this guy actually understood what had happened!!!!

The Team Leader apologised for the incorrect info i had been given and gave me some options - can't remove the $15 fee but could give me 3 months free.  Still means I am stuck with the monthly charge once that finishes.  I asked if he could give me some $$ off the $599 charge for the box - said it was not possible.

End result - I have a techy coming back out on Saturday to install the mysky box and take away the second hdi box. Apparently a $49 fee they would normally charge that is getting waived.. and get the $99 refunded.

I have been a customer of skys for approx 8-9 years and this is how I am repaid?? Scum!!!!

Hurry up Telstra (or someone else) and bring in HD TV!!!!  My loyalty to sky is gone!

tkr001: Just a rant. I have already paid to have multiroom installed. Now I want to upgrade the digital decoder to a Myskyhdi and they want another $99 install fee. What a ripoff!

How much do you pay them every year?

What do you actually watch a lot of that isn't on Freeview and you couldn't live without if it meant you had extra cash equal to what you pay them every year?

Just wondering.

I pay them nothing.
