old3eyes:
martyyn: I have Sky for one reason and one reason only. English Premiership football in HD. Arsenal are on every week and I can sit down on a Sunday morning with my boy and watch the game in all its glory.

There are only ever two or three movies a month which interest us and anything else we watch is through FreeviewHD on the HTPC.

If it wasnt for the football we wouldnt bother at all with Sky. The amount of American rubbish just astounds us. You would think we were a part of the USA with the amount of programming there is. Thank god for the internet and Match of the Day, Have I Got News For You, Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Survivors, Waking the Dead and Skins is all I can say :)

Ever stopped to think that lots of people think that soccer is rubbish as well??   Most boring game in the world to watch. He who does the best Hollywood wins the game..

Each to their own I guess. For me, nothing better than watching English soccer, particularly Arsenal, with my son.  I find rugby now to be incredibly boring. Soccer, league, grand slam tennis are all far more exciting for me and my family.  That is just my opinion though. I respect all of the passionate NZ rugby fans but I don't agree with their views that rugby is the best thing since sliced bread.

While AUS is getting broadcasts in 3D already our providers are struggling to give us HD content and cahnnels of decent value.
Sky think their pathetic proposition of giving us standard def coverage of the Commonwealth games across a number of channels is actually groundbreaking.  I know I'd prefer even a single channel showing the coverage in HD.

Yes Sky content such as Discovery, Nat Geo, Documentary, Animal Planet are great but they are not in HD.
Sky havent introduced another HD channel since launching the product nearly 2 years ago, and they only deliver 4 of their own channels in HD.
I am also starting to question if (SKY HDi) is worth it but I have no other choice as I would like to see this conent.

I'm surprised that they've stuck with the HD ticket as, to me, it seems a rip off $10 a month for very little actual HD content.

I chuckle to myself when I read headlines about a 'stampede' to buying 3D TVs here when most of the channels aren't even widescreen let alone HD/3D!!

I think I'm the only one who just doesn't 'get' 3DTV, fadtastic IMHO

Perhaps you can just use Sky Digital in the Basic plan to get what you want and reduce costs, and use an HDD recorder

no SKY HDi means no HD Ticket which means no HD content so this wont work.

3DTV

I havent seen one, Im am early adopter and like best quality, but I cvannot see how 3D can be as nice to view, I mean clear and sharp, as todays HD 2D. I am sure its good, any of you seen one?

I weighed up the options with sky, but for what you're getting it's just not worth it. My parents have it and even then only for the rugby.

If you're not into sports it's seriously not worth it! shows are still littered with ad's and for a limited HD selection you're still paying more than a decent (sic) broadband connection!

And they wonder why people torrent?

I have just reduced my sky to decoder rental only - around $20.00/ month. Gets FTA channels only. Not too sure if I'm missing C4, TAB, and a couple of others. But no doco channels, no cartoons, no news channels. Can live with that for the time being.
Yeah, I know I can get a FreeView box and hook it up to the Sky dish for the same results, but I have my setup "just right" ( mostly....), and would be a hassle to mess things around.

Is that the standard digital box or the MySkyHDi?  Cos TV1/2/3 in HD plus a PVR for $20/mth doesnt down like a bad option.

It was for the digital decoder, not the HDi. I heard the support person mention "Digital Decoder Rental". Yes, I have a PVR as well (S1 Tivo), and clunky as the whole setup is, I can transfer recorded shows to watch on the PC. Usually shows that don't require full attention, and can quickly flick back if I miss something - things like fishing and motoring shows, etc.

I'm moving house end of June so Sky is not going with us. At $100 / month it's getting close to a weeks mortgage payment..

Yep, I took a look in Hardly Normal. I thought it was impressive.
