Hi, I was wondering if there’s a way of getting PVR functionality with a new standard Sky SD subscription, not MySky?

I was thinking either some way of connecting a PVR to the SD Sky decoder, or buying something like a Strong SRT4663X or Openbox S9 plus external hard drive and inserting the sky card into the Strong / Openbox decoder. Does anyone have any experience of whether this is likely to work, enabling recording / live pause?

Why not just get MySky? Much easier.

There are a number of 3rd party boxes that support NDS that will work with a Sky card.

The catch however is that unless you have a later generation 46xx Sky card it won't work, and typically the only guaranteed way to get one of these cards is to get MySky.

You could try Series 1 Tivo. Works well with the standard Sky Decoder. Occasionally pop up on TradeMe. Full EPG, unlike the crippled one the current Tivo's have.
