I've an allowance of $600 from work to go towards a handset of my choice (I want to cap my total spend limit to $1000 though) so which mobile should i get ?

I'm keen on something that is waterproof/resistance so I can clip it to the motorbike for using Waze, so far my choice seems to be :

Sony Xperia Z

Anything else out there that is nice and tough enough to use as a GPS on my motorbike ?

Seems like a good choice for your requirements, always check here for compatibility.

ummmm .. did you reply to the right post ?  I'd probably looking at putting a custom ROM on it after warranty is out but it's not a requirement for it going on a motorbike or being waterproof :-)

Personally, I think aftermarket support is a priority regardless of other requirements. Generally means you'll get a longer useful life - if it survives the bike. You might want to check what your warranty will cover in that situation as well.

I think the Xperia Z is really good as its waterproof but isn't that great in other respects so do your homework.

I think the Z is waterproof and dustproof but feels a bit fragile. It is basically all glass. Not sure how well is would survive a drop. Also the covers are really finicky to open.  The S4 active looks better to me, but I have not actually tried one out yet.

The guy in the Sony store threw his phone down onto a counter to show toughness - his is the model before the SP.
