SD IO wi-fi cards for Windows Mobile Smartphone are still in development. And AFAIK the Smartphone2 doesn't have the Bluetooth profile that you'd need to access a landline Bluetootn modem.

You can choose any business plan you like, but choosing a more expensive plan will mean that Vodafone will be willing to subsidise your phone more heavily. Vodafone no longer offer term contracts on personal (nights and weekends) plans, so you won't get your phone subsidised at all if you go down this path, but they do offer hire purchse options if that's any help.

You should really talk to Vodafone if you're in doubt regarding anything to do with call plans and contracts.

Back on the subject of smart phones, I'm pretty keen on the PalmOne Treo 600. Any thoughts on that handset? I think it's pretty cheap at Ascent.

hi again.
I think i might get me a Smartphone now - i've sorted finaces etc etc - but i just want a few more things sorted...

1. It runs a microsoft OS right - thats cool - but how do you access WAP on it? (can ya?) or is it all internet?
And (looking at the VL! features) can ya still download games, read news, send pxts easy? or is it a big mumble jumble of menus etc etc

2. (just it case) what are the simalar phones to this? Are there any better ones ( i don't really want a PDA phone, i'd rather have a phone pda so to speak!) or new ones about to come out?
And whats the SE P900 ( i think) like? is it easy to use as a phone - is it more PDA based.
If u had the choice - what would u go SP, or 900?

Is there anyone hear that has used the smartphone (or owns one) and has comments, thoughts (same for other similar phones)

Few other small thoughts:
I can still get the "everyday data rate plans" using this phone aye - ie, the 3mb for $10/mnth

What is this 3G i'm hearing about - should i wait for that?

Will this I-mate SP be able to upgrade to the latest versions of wndows smartphone? (i see already there is a Second edition out)

And what other OS's are there aside from The windows one (m$ one)
Are they any good?
Can you still do all the things like check ya POP3 email, browse net, send txts etc?

Thanks
Alex

The i-mate Smartphone runs an Operating System called Windows Mobile. It's a special OS for mobile devices, with versions for Pocket PC and smartphones. It has a look and structure similar to the known Windows OS. The Pocket Internet Explorer is its web browser, and it renders both HTML and WML (WAP) pages. It's not fully qualified for Vodafone live! but you can access other WAP sites - or any web site you want to. Of course it's formatted to fit the small screen.

2.(just it case) what are the simalar phones to this? Are there any better ones ( i don't really want a PDA phone, i'd rather have a phone pda so to speak!) or new ones about to come out? The P900 runs another operating system called Symbian. It has a different user interface, but comes with the same basic PDA functionality. Programs are different too. I like the P900 (and I have a P800 right now), but I'm personally inclined to move to the Windows Mobile Smartphone soon.

Yep

3G is a data packet network, similar to GPRS in concept, but with different interface between the phone and network. This gives access to a faster network. But will not be available in New Zealad for another 12 months.

Will this I-mate SP be able to upgrade to the latest versions of wndows smartphone? (i see already there is a Second edition out)
In theory yes, but depends on the manufacturer providing the updates. The Second Edition you read about is for Pocket PC only, not Smartphone.

Yes, you have POP3 and IMAP clients, all the PDA functions, plus Instant Messaging. The phone will run on Windows Mobile only, but as I said there are another phones with other OS (like the P900).

Hi what do you mean by that (NZ network)?

O - and just saw the new Motorola MPx100 that has been announced.
Looks very similar to the I-mate.
Has more or less the same features - cept it has a 1.3MP camera with flash.
Anyone know when this will be out? (i looked on net - everything from 1month to next year...)
sweet

The Motorola MPx100 should be available from the second half of this year. The comment about the network bands was just a reminder - if you buy an imported phone make sure it has 900MHz for use in NZ.
