Ok an update...

MY mobile number is 64XXXXX

I need to have a USA service send me a SMS.

They needed a format like this : 64XXXXX@sms.vodafone.net.nz

During the checking if it works process, the test SMS did not come thru.

So do I need to turn or pay for something at my NZ vodafone, to get this to work.

Please advise...

You need to turn the service on before it will forward emails from 642xxx@sms.vodafone.net.nz to your phone. There is a short code you can txt to turn this on but I have forgotten it.

Call customer services and they should be able to tell you the short code, keep in mind its 20c/SMS received

Well I just dialed 777

The guy at the other end , said it cant be done, or he had no knowledge of this address type, 642xxx@sms.vodafone.net.nz

He said that this was a common request, but it cant be done,..

Did I just get a newbie on the phone or do I need to describe the service better to  777 people..

freitasm, close it is R to 901

And it still works, I tried it just to see what would happen.

Otherwise the service is called textmail is it not?

Oh, and I am a mere mortal on Prepay, does this mean that us prepay customer get another feather in our cap from Vodafone?

So it s R 901 to activate, and R 301 to deactivate : 64XXXX@sms.vodafone.net.nz

Well I dialed  R 901  or 7901  as 7 = r. The I get number invalid,,,from auto voice.

So what do I do exactly..thx

Its posted above what you action: Don't dial it

You SMS R to 901 to activate and to deactivate its D to 901

Each incoming SMS is charged at 20 cents (160 characters) if longer then 2 SMS 40 cents and so on.
