Just noticed that 1+ have launched their latest flagship.  I'm seriously thinking of taking the plunge as my first cross over from apple to this.  Iphone X is just too pricey and I cant be bothered with Samsung's bloatware.

Anyone else getting one and thoughts on best way to get them from overseas? Also, do you know if they work well and support carrier aggregation in NZ (thinking of getting US model).

I always recommend that if you are going to jump ship from Apple to Android get a pure Android device such as the Pixel 2. If you go for a different manufacturer you are bound to be disappointed if you want continued software support past a year or 2.

The OnePlus 5T is an excellent device but please heed the warning that this is not the pure Android experience and is skinned over.

I was looking at it but went for another note8 (with dual sim).  By time it gets to NZ it will be close to 1k to buy the op5t(if importing it or from a store).  One of the main reasons i was looking at the 5T was the bigger screen and dash charging.

I have had the OP1, Op3, Op5 and they were good phones but there has been a few things in the media of late about collecting user data and now the backdoor root access app that someone has made and loaded into the firmware to look like it was a Qualcomm app but modified with custom code.

For $350 more I can get the dual sim note8 which has a lot more to it than what the op5t offers (better screen, wireless charging, ip68 rating etc).

Oneplus is also getting just as slow as other OEM's at releasing updates, even the op5t is being released with Android 7.1.x

Sure i miss dash charging (it's really good) but there are more quick chargers out there than there are dash chargers and dash usb cords.

Import direct from them, Ebay, or wait for PBTech.

If I order from the US, will there be any issues with it working in NZ? In terms of 4G etc?

Shouldn’t be. The LtE bands it supports are all NZ compatible. Have a friend ordering one. Youshop has a 20% off promo at the moment for Black Friday which will sweeten the deal.

Thanks.

@NikT any chance that PBTech will be ranging the Oneplus 5T? And if so, when would it be available to order?

Yep, I would love the pure android experience. But at in excess of $1,700, I'll settle for something close to pure.

Absolutely yes we'll be ranging the 5T. ETA TBC as it's only just come out.

i went into pb in queen street the other day and was looking at one plus 5. The sales assistance said they haven’t stocked it for a while and wasn’t sure when they were getting more. Same for the pixel.

Yep, the Oneplus 5 is end of life and that'll be one of the very last display units. 5T replaces it. Pixel 2 is coming.

That's the plan.

I bought 2 of the One+ 5s from PB Tech and have been pretty happy with them. Not pure Android, but then I use Nova over the top anyway. I'm sure you'd be happy with the 5T. Hopefully they have sorted 5 GHz WiFi as there were enough grumbles about it (poor battery life.) That was the only minus for me (I tend not to use it when swimming, so don't give a monkey's about a IP ratings ??)

Updates tend to be a month or two behind, but hugely better than most.

The only issue is that you don't get a NZ pin Dash charger, but an adaptor plus standard NZ fast charger. I ended up buying OPPO mains & car Dash chargers from JB and a couple of spare leads from the USA. It would be nice if PB Tech made all these available.

Any update on availability of the 5T @NikT?

I see they're now available for order on supero.co.nz
