It seems there has been a lot of people asking whether or not mobile phones will be locked since new competition is coming into the market. Some are saying yes, some, no.

Now it's got me confused.

Can someone (which solid knowledge only please, I don't want this to turn into a circus) please tell me (and others) if cellphone/carrier locking will be introduced now/soon/ever?

Thanks.

Vodafone did lock handsets last year for a very short stint but after com com pressure, they stopped the practise. I doubted if they would start again after 2degrees launches.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Correct. Last year Vodafone started that and in a week or so Com Com sent the message that they wouldn't like to see this happening on such a small market.

There isn't any law saying operator can't lock their handsets, but so far the market has been quite free. I don't know if any operators have plans to do it though, but I would bet this is not something coming anytime soon.
