@Paradoxsm how do you get the true 320x320 96dpi on your Palm Treo Pro? I have one and PIE is a PITA.

I carry both my iPod Touch 1st Gen and Palm Treo Pro. I'd just PIE on PTP on quick suffice browsing. Anything more, I'd fire up WMWiFiRouter and use PTP as my MiFi and browse via iPod Touch. Until I can justify the cost of getting iPhone 3GS.

As for the tweet - I agree. I read a blog where the guy was impressed his $1200 smartphone could do copy-and-paste. Pathetic, isn't it?

*most* iphone users are pathetic.

*most* use their iphone just for texting and phone calls only. *sometimes* listening to the songs.

they bought iphone because it is the current trend and a fancy toy.

These are ridiculous over-generalisations that hold absolutely zero substance and have NOTHING to do with the topic. Of all the iPhone users I know (and there are quite a few I know due to the nature of my business) absolutely not one is pathetic and absolutely not one uses it simply for texting and making phone calls.

Walk away my friend, you're adding no value to this thread

To be honest, the HTC Magic seems to work well for me. I also have got a iPod touch.

I am running the CyanogenMod Modded Firmware on mine, which was intended for the HTC Dream, but works _Really_ well on the Magic. Web browsing is fast both on 3G and Wlan.

The reason why I am running modded firmware? Well just think of it as "Jailbreaking" your iPhone, it opens up more possibilities for your phone, and also the CyanogenMod Firmware adds support for multitouch "Pinch to zoom" in the Android Browser (which is based off webkit)

Acid3
achieves a score of 93/100 on the magic - which ain't too bad.. The iPhone now achieves 100% according to Wikipedia - but since they are both based off webkit (like I said) i'm sure Android won't be too far off :)

Plenty of people have got iPhones and regretted it, like any other device, fewer than for other devices but then people purchasing other smartphones are often doing so because they are better informed...

z2k: iPhone is second to none in the mobile web browsing department. Mobile Safari is just awesome..

Remember, the poster asked what was the best phone for mobile browsing, he was told the iPhone is most cases and I'd agree, some other devices come close but still are not the same league of smoothness and ease of use in that regard.

There are many things about the iPhone I dislike or think could be improved upon like a physical keyboard and the lack of drag-n-drop filesystem but as a mobile browser, it's utterly superb.

I will also say that most iPhone users use them for a lot more than "a phone to look cool" some people might buy it for that very reason but then realize it's potential.

I run Symbian, Apple and Winmobile-pro devices concurrently so have a great assortment to play with and compare on a running basis.

I think the Samsung i8000 with its 800x480 AMOLED display and Opera Mobile 9.7 is about as good as it gets right now, but the iPhone is very good indeed. Have you tried Opera Mobile on any WVGA WinMo phones paradoxsm? Be interested to hear your thoughts on it...

For me, it's because I refuse to develop for Symbian.  I don't understand how anyone can make software development so damn expensive - signing events?!?  Screw that.

I finally have fibre!  Had to leave the country to get it though.
