First-time poster, not a techie. Forgive me if this has been discussed ad nauseum; I could not find reference to it using the search function. Would like to get EV-DO, but preferably for use on a handheld/pocket pc rather than a notebook. Is there a handheld out there that runs XP and has a PCMCIA slot? Everything seems to have one or the other or neither. Thanks in advance.

There are a few solutions around. If you are not looking for a handheld then size is a factor - this is the size of Pocket PC and Palm for example. But if you want a full Windows XP then things will get a little bigger.

Luckily there are some very small Windows XP machines now. Have a look at OQO, Dell X1, or Toshiba Libretto.

If you really want to use EV-DO on a Pocket PC then you will have to use Windows Mobile OS. In this case try the Verizon XV6600. We have it here in New Zealand with another brand through Telecom New Zealand. Check our review and compare its speed with other Pocket PCs in the market.

Thank you very much for your reply. That's very kind of you. I'll look into those models.

Edited to add: I hadn't realized that EV-DO could run on Windows Mobile OS. I'll assume from your reply that it cannot run on Windows CE, which would solve all my problems (because then would just need a small device with the right card slot). But do correct me if I've misunderstood required OS's, and thanks again.
