I was comparing iPhone4 and N900 recently and ended up with N900. Main reasons:

- Hardware and features are generally on same ballbark but iP4 would have been almost twice as expensive. I'm not rich enough to donate over $600 to Steve Jobs!

- N900 has Keyboard. I tried the on screen keyboard on iP4 and it was shocking.

- Not impressed how many problems my colleagues with iPs have had requiring return to base for repairs

Hey guys,
I've got an N900 that won't boot when its flashed with the latest firmware. Works when its got an older version flashed to it except it has a simcard icon with a red line and telephone functions don't work. I sent it to fonefix and they said its locked to a carrier, which from what I've read on the internet isn't possible on the N900. I recieved the phone non-booting so I dont know if its locked, or is from a particular carrier. Any ideas about where I go from here?

did you bring this up with fonefix? because it's common knowledge the n900 doesn't lock to a carrier. you should definately try a different sim card or two in it.

I have seen the phone symbol only after incorectly flashing with the wrong firmware check this is not the case and try again. Make sure you folow all steps corectly. locked or not a ful firmware flash an drive should unlock it as it wipes everything and unless u are flashing with the "company" that locked its custom firmware you cant lock it back up.

My advice check through your steps again when flashing.

I've attempted to flash around 40 times with a number of different firmwares from the nokia repository. Even tried running an older firmware with the new modem firmware flashed over it, all sorts. Maemo.org and nokia support forums suggest I need to be running the latest version to have telephony functions since the modem firmware doesn't 'downgrade'. Nokia care here in chch said they don't have the equipment to fix it and it'd have to goto Australia for them to do something. Fonefix said it was locked and wouldn't flash? I'll buy a 2 degrees sim and try that.

So did u pick this up second hand? if so sounds like what happened when people flashed PR1.2 with the leacked beta version this created the same issue no phone!

If new from store and u can save some hair and send it back.

Im sure prob can be fixed they had a thread dedicated to it over at Maemo.org Im ChCh to the nokia care centre they can cover now the phone is sold in OZ I might take mine back to see them again.
