Interesting today my phone went in to portrait, im not sure what happened when i switched off and back on it was back to landscape. i tried to go through what i was doing at the time to recreate but did not work. has anyone else had this before?

Note this was more of a glitch than a hiden option as screens did not work that well with widgets not reflowing to fit screen and being half on the other screen. it was neat to scroll in portrait though and the info bar at top fit perfectly.

I got my handset at 8am this morning & I'm loving it so far. Took me awhile to work out what I was doing wrong with the wifi but it came right eventually. Hadn't enabled WPA2. Surfing is a breeze on this thing.

Organised with Shipito today to do my rebate for me. I gave them all my details via email and a link to the rebate pdf and they sorted it all (filled out the pdf, printed it, printed my photos of my box barcodes & sent it to Nokia). Fingers crossed it'll work but it only cost $22.37 USD so no biggy if it doesn't.

In case anyone hasn't done theirs yet. It has to be post-dated on or before 8th January & recieved no later than 15th January by Nokia USA.

Just finished syncing my contacts from my N95 and it worked great. Also ordered a screen protector from Clearprotector.com. Worked out as $11.49 USD with free shipping after the $3 discount you get with the MILITARY coupon.

Yeah this is known...some people have managed to reproduce it but it is not fully implemented to be used at the mo...
Portrait mode is coming in a coming update, but to what I have read it's not included in the most immediate firmware update.

To enable 3G all the time, which is best if you also want the fastest broadband/internet speed, do the following:

Apps menu > Settings > Phone > Network Selection > Manual > Vodafone NZ > Network Mode > 3G

You can select Dual, which means it will either 3G or GSM when the other is not available, but I found on my previous N97 that the phone uses the slower GSM first, rather than the other way round...so if you want guaranteed 3G and the fastest possible web, select 3G to force it to use only that selection, and not the slower GSM.

The one that's called .n900.ico on the mass-storage device. :D

Good review Euan. It's interesting to see another person's take on the handset.

I think the problem with your Infrared cover might be to do with your particular handset as mine seems perfect fine and doesn't move one bit.

I have yet to have my browser crash too so that might have something to do with all the dev apps you installed? I haven't tried any of them (dev apps) yet as I wanted to test battery life without them first then install them one by one.

Great review, and i have found many of your coments a fair summary of how I feel minus my hardware issue, next step open this puppy up.

Anyway after realizing i have done all that can be done after getting to through all the apps repo includimg dev, i decided to start mucking around in the comand line and thanks to some helpfull tips from others have moded a few features on my unit.

Mod colour notification light. I have a green light for emails now and purple for sms white for calls.
Mod boot screen removed Nokia hands and added custom Maemo splash screen.
Mod power button to add more function have added a reboot button option so i dont have to shutdown and start again.

This has lead me to realize that if you have the understanding of how to mod you will truly get 100% satisfaction from this unit.

Any chance you could post up how to do these mods?
