Use the one that states APAC2 NZ Blue - but NZ Blue would work - it's probably not that important, TBH.

I eventually registered that the code number had to be entered in the field, not the words.

All done now.  Ultimately very straightforward.  No issues evident - so far have not even needed a hard reset.

Thanks for your replies.

I think that's the thing with Nemesis - we expect it to be far more complicated than it actually is - it's one of the simplest things in the world to use!

With the recent software updates along with free maps and the new skype app I think the 5800 provides some of the best value for money in the market.

I find my nokia 5800 to be very useful.

Latest nice thing was that the nokia maps driving instructions just overlay nicely over the top of podcasts playing through aux in on my car stereo.

I have also finally figured out that you need to "slide left to right" to stop alarms in firmware 40. Tricky one, so THAT is what that sliding colour graphic meant! I hammered stop for ages with no effect, someone has been a little too clever on this one.

Biggest issue with the phone would have to be sunlight visibility of the screen.

5800 Photos actually can be quite good, we looked at some shots today on the big screen TV and they looked fine from the couch.

Email app still seems a bit flaky. Haven't figured out how to use it properly, it seems not to play too well with WIFI at home, and doesn't work at all with WIFI at work.

Is your wireless router set to TKIP?

I had great difficulty connecting to our home wireless until I discovered that it was set to AES.  Changing back to TKIP solved the wireless connection problem

Wireless does work at home, email just doesn't seem to use it nicely. I mean, just now I had to fiddle to get rid of a wireless connection from email that would not drop. I don't want wireless active all day at home, just use it when I want to check please.

At work, email over WIFI used to work, but then I changed my WIFI MS-CHAP access password and it hasn't worked since, even though WIFI still works fine for browsing. Shrug. Flaky.

What is a 5800XM compared to a standard 5800XM ?

And how can I tell when I buy one ?

Can someone please advise what this "Ovi Maps" thing is?

Sounds too good to be true.

If I'm not mistaken, is this a completely FREE GPS navigation application (supported in specific Nokia phones including the 5800) which allows Turn by Turn navigation in New Zealand??

Is it essentially the same as buying a Navman/Tom Tom standalone GPS navigation device??

Or how does it differ and what are the limitations etc.? Does it require a data connection to work?

It is true (http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/01/21/free-global-navigatio-for-nokia-smartphones/).

Also http://techcrunch.com/2010/02/03/nokia-ovi-maps-with-free-navigation-averages-a-download-per-second-1-4m-total/.

It may not be straightforward on earlier versions of the 5800XM though.  I have loaded Ovi Maps 3 but when I try to use the navigation it works for a minute or so then says I need to pay as it is a premium service (which it was until a few months ago).  Still learning how to use it.  Have not yet worked out  how to activate the free navigation, but there is no doubt that Nokia have now made it free.

It should not need a data connection to work, though it aways asks if you want to connect.  I have also needed a data connection to access local 'places' (shops etc).  May be possible to prelaod those?  Certainly all the maps are/can be preloaded; ie. no connnection needed to DL maps, they have to be stored on yo9ur memory card.

Yes, turn by turn nav works well.

Does it require a data connection to work?

No data connection is required, you just download the NZ maps once to the phone.

... Yes, turn by turn nav works well. ...

How recent is your phone?

Did it ever say you needed to purchase the navigation license?  If so, how did you manage to get it to switch to the freee navigation.  I bought my phone in Feb, but it was a parallel imported version which was clearly one of the earlier 5800XM models (only had v2 firmware).

Upgraded it to v4 & installed Maps 3 OK, but still have not got free navigation to work :(.

The other problem I have yet to solve is how to enter a destination.  It I specify an address, it just says it cannot locate it?

I would be interested to know your experience.

So there anything a standalone GPS navigation device do that a Nokia with Ovi maps can't?

Apart from having a bigger screen?

And how good are the map/directions?
